Metal credit cards have been available for 20 years now. One of the first was the ultra-luxury Amex Centurion in 1999. Typically, banks only use metal for some of the best premium credit cards with high annual fees. But did you know there is a Wells Fargo metal card that doesn’t have an annual fee?

Terms apply to American Express benefits and offers. Visit americanexpress.com to learn more.
While metal credit cards aren’t exactly new, metal credit cards with no annual fee are still rare. You usually need to pay a minimum $95 annual fee to have the prestige of owning one of the best metal credit cards.
The information related to Wells Fargo Propel American Express® Card has been collected by Johnny Jet and has not been reviewed or provided by the issuer or provider of this product or service.
Wells Fargo Propel Card
Wells Fargo has only one metal credit card at the moment — the Wells Fargo Propel American Express® card. It weighs 10 grams, making it one of the lightest metal credit cards. To compare, most plastic cards weigh 5 grams. Heavier metal cards like the Chase Sapphire family weighs 13 grams. The Amex Platinum weighs 18 grams.
The Propel Card doesn’t have an annual fee or foreign transaction fee. It’s arguably the best Wells Fargo credit card because of its valuable rewards program. As you will see, the Wells Fargo Propel American Express® card is one of the best metal credit cards for a reason.
Earn Up to 3x Points on Every Purchase
You earn unlimited 3x points on dining, gas, rideshares and transit, travel, and popular streaming services. All remaining purchases earn unlimited 1 point per $1 spent.
The variety of bonus categories makes it easy to maximize your daily spending.
50% Award Flight Bonus
Your points are most valuable when booking award flights on the Wells Fargo Go Far Rewards travel portal. Each point is worth 1.5 cents each. That’s 50% more than the standard redemption value for cash and gift card rewards.
Unlike most metal cards, the Propel Card doesn’t offer point transfers to airline or hotel partners. The lack of this point redemption option is one of the largest downsides for this card. However, the 50% flight redemption bonus is a worthy tradeoff.
Free Cell Phone Insurance
Paying your monthly cell phone bill with the Propel Card means you are eligible for up to $600 protection for damaged or stolen cell phones.
Although you pay a $25 deductible, this perk removes most of the financial sting of replacing your device.
Welcome Bonus
You also have the opportunity to earn 20,000 bonus points by spending $1,000 in the first 3 months. This welcome bonus has a cash reward value of $200.
You qualify for this bonus when you haven’t opened another Wells Fargo credit card in the last 15 months and received a signup bonus or introductory offers. Also, you can only apply for one Wells Fargo credit card every 6 months. Because the “1/15 rule” is more restrictive, make sure it’s been at least 15 months since you last received a Wells Fargo signup bonus.
Custom Card Design
As if the Wells Fargo metal card feature isn’t enough, you can also add your own card design. This is a free way to make your credit card unique. You can use a premade design or upload your own custom work.
Credit Score Needed for Wells Fargo Propel
You have highest approval odds for the Wells Fargo Propel with a 670 credit score. This is the start of good credit.
Existing Wells Fargo members should pay attention to these two application rules:
- Can only apply for 1 Wells Fargo credit card every 6 months
- Can only receive 1 Wells Fargo welcome bonus every 15 months
If you pass both of these restrictions, the Propel Card might be a good option to add to your wallet.

Summary
Yes, there is a Wells Fargo metal credit card. The Propel Card is one of the best no annual fee travel credit cards available. You earn up to 3x points on purchases. Plus, each point is worth 50% more when booking award flights. But if you travel often, you might find more value in metal credit cards with an annual fee.
You can’t customize the Wells Fargo Propel card, I guess because of it being metal
It may also be an issue because it is AmEx, I’m not sure
Could be, or it could just be their policy.
