If you subscribe to my newsletter, then you know I fly American Airlines (AA) more than any other domestic airline. The main reason is because I’ve had elite status with them for almost a decade and it’s hard to give up the perks like priority check-in/boarding, free checked bags, free extra legroom seats and upgrades when space is available. Unfortunately, AA has seriously cut back international travel from my home airport of Los Angeles (LAX) but that means their other hub airports get to pick up the slack. So for travelers who are in Chicago (ORD), Dallas (DFW) or Philadelphia (PHL) or are willing to connect, you’ll love this just-announced news.

American will add new nonstop service to Europe, with flights from Philadelphia (PHL) to Copenhagen, Denmark (CPH); Naples, Italy (NAP); and Nice, France (NCE). American will also launch new service between Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Barcelona, Spain (BCN) and bring back flights between Chicago (ORD) and Venice, Italy (VCE).”

All in all, American will offer 15 daily nonstop flights from PHL to 14 European destinations next summer. Starting May 6, PHL and NCE, just in time for the nearby Cannes film festival.

Starting June 5, American will inaugurate new service to NAP and the following day (June 6), they launch CPH. All three flights will be operated by a Boeing 787, which is a comfortable plane.

This is exciting news for me since I’m half Italian, a quarter Danish and a little bit French so this makes travel to the countries of my ancestors easier.

My family and I were just in two of those European airports in June as we flew to Barcelona, Spain to board our 7-Day Mediterranean cruise to Rome. We then took a train south and a ferry to the Island of Ischia before flying out of Naples.

Naples, as you probably know, is the jumping off point for the Amalfi Coast, including the islands of Ischia and Capri. This is great news for the area and local economy. BTW: We spent the night in Naples at the Royal Continental, which was a solid hotel and across the street from one of the city’s best restaurants.

Did I mention we also spent the night in Philadelphia Airport Marriott at the beginning of the summer?
