Choosing the right luggage involves taking a number of factors into consideration like size, style and weight. But when it comes to color, it’s advised you steer clear of the standard black bag that most people travel with. RELATED: Don’t Ever Travel With This Kind of Bag

According to The Guardian, back in the summer of 2022, when airlines were losing passenger luggage left and right, Stefan Schulte, the head of Frankfurt Airport said “the predominance of black suitcases has contributed to the difficulties faced by airlines and baggage handlers in recent weeks, because it was ‘hard to distinguish them from each other’.”

The article goes on to say: “Schulte told German media his advice to passengers was to wherever possible bring hand luggage only, and failing that to use suitcases that would be easier to identify.”

While airlines are no longer losing checked bags with the same kind of post-pandemic frequency, it’s still advisable to avoid black bags. A unique, colorful bag is easier to identify on the baggage carousel, it’s easier to describe if it does get lost and it’s less likely to get stolen because it stands out.
