I receive dozens, if not hundreds, of newsletters so I make sure I don’t miss anything. I usually don’t have time to read each and every one but I quickly scan most of them, looking for the things that are of most interest. RELATED: The Brilliant Travel Gadget That Has Saved Me a Small Fortune

One deal that caught my eye was featured by tech expert Kim Komando. She featured what she called a super geeky outlet and, well I was intrigued. She writes: “Need more outlets? I hear you. That’s why I use this clever fix. Instead of two dinky outlets, like magic — you easily have 5 AC outlets, 3 USB ports and 1 USB-C port. Bonus: It’s a surge protector, too! Nice!”

I’m always looking for new outlets when I travel, especially when I’m traveling internationally. What really sold me on this gadget is that it’s also a surge protector, it’s Amazon’s Choice, it has a 4.5 rating (out of 5) and over 35,000 reviews. The kicker is that it’s currently 40% off. You can buy it here on Amazon.

I just purchased one and normally, I would just wait until I got a chance to review it myself but since it’s on sale and I trust Kim’s recommendations (and that it’s Amazon’s Choice), I figured it’s better to let you know now while it’s on sale.

So, if you’re planning on traveling this summer and need a good, super geeky outlet then you might want to pick this up. And if you’re traveling internationally, then you might want to pair it with an international adaptor and extension cord.

Hi! Would this work on a cruise ship?

      Definitely

I never travel without a small carbon monoxide/smoke detector. After hearing some tragic stories of problems in hotels, I can feel safe with my own detector plugged into the wall.

On carbon monoxide/smoke detectors – I note that Europe does not seem to have the concerns we have about the necessity of these devices in the U.S. So, I make sure to bring my own. Another thing to notice in European hotels (at least from my experience) is that peek holes in the room door so you can see who is knocking – not customary like here in U.S. hotels.

This a 125 volt item, so you would need a converter and adapter for other countries

Great idea! Do you have any tips on remembering to take it and the usb wall adapter you have recommended when you check out?

  6. Brian Carraher|

I prefer the ones that contain USA, Europe and Asia plugs all in one device

Kathie Allen, Put a sticky note on the door, that should help.
