If you’re a college football fan, then you’re definitely going to be interested in this contest from Vrbo, which has been around since 1995, making it easy for travelers to book cabins, condos, beach houses and every kind of space in between. According to Vrbo, “One lucky fan will be hired, and they’ll enjoy all-expenses-paid travel and game-day tickets for themselves and their five closest “fan-mily” members to attend the College Football Playoff National Championship (Monday, January 8) and the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl (New Year’s Day), plus VIP perks including: field credentials and seats on the 50-yard-line at the Fiesta Bowl, nearly $1,000 worth of gameday gear, private transportation to and from both games, plus 10 nights in Vrbo private vacation rentals in Phoenix and Houston and a $1,000 stipend to stock the homes with gameday snacks.”
They’re currently taking applications for the first-ever “Fan-mily in Residence” dream job. If you’re wondering what the official definition of the made up word “Fan-mily” is, here you go: “Fan-mily (noun): A group of individuals who are always by your side, rooting for your favorite college football team. More than likely, you went to college together or you could actually be related. A fan-mily is your ride or die squad and you spent years coordinating touchdown dances, crying at missed field goals, and celebrating victories or commiserating losses. More than anyone else, they get you.”
BTW: I made up a word too. ‘Econophobia‘ is the fear of flying coach but that’s another subject.
What’s interesting is that according to a Vrbo survey of college football fans, nearly 60% of college football fans would ignore friends or family members of opposing teams for the entire season if it meant giving their team a shot at the College Football Playoff National Championship. That’s nuts, right?
