What Are The Best Credit Cards for Chase Bank Customers?

Are you looking for a top credit card that earns cash back or rewards, both when traveling and staying at home? Maybe you already have a Chase checking or Chase savings (or maybe even Chase business checking account) bank account.

Even if you don’t already have a relationship with Chase, Chase Bank is a good place to start.

Chase makes it hard to choose a credit card because they have so many appealing products. There are the no annual fee Freedom cards, the rewards earning Sapphire cards, the Ink Business cards, and much more.

As mentioned above, many of these cards are great for everyday spending.

Which one is the best credit card in Chase Bank?

You should travel with the Chase Sapphire Preferred as the top Chase card for travel. Let’s just dive in: New Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card cardholders can earn 60,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 in purchases in their first 3 months from account opening. That’s worth $750 when redeemed through Chase Travel℠.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred earns unlimited:

  • 5x points on travel purchased through Chase Travel (excluding hotel purchases that qualify for the $50 Anniversary Hotel Credit)
  • 3x points on dining (including eligible delivery services, takeout, and dining out)
  • 3x points on online grocery purchases (excluding Target®, Walmart®, and wholesale clubs)
  • Also 3x points on select streaming services
  • 2x points on all other travel purchases
  • 1x point per $1 spent on all non-bonus purchases

There is a $50 annual Hotel Credit. It comes in the form of a statement credit that will automatically be applied to your account when your card is used for hotel accommodation purchases made through the program, up to an annual maximum accumulation of $50.

Plus, on each account anniversary, you’ll earn bonus points equal to 10% of your total purchases made the previous year. So, if you spend $25,000 on purchases, you’ll get 2,500 bonus points.

Other Chase Sapphire Card Details

One tradeoff for the Chase Sapphire Preferred bonus is the $95 annual fee. However, the bonus can help offset the annual fee if you use it to pay for travel with one of the Chase travel partners. The Preferred is comparable to another popular travel credit card, the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, and other cards with similar benefits. See how the Capital One Venture and Chase Sapphire Preferred compare for more information.

Because the Sapphire Preferred is the best Chase credit card overall, this signup bonus is somewhat exclusive. You only qualify if you do not own another Sapphire product and haven’t received a new Sapphire card member bonus in the past 48 months. Knowing the Sapphire application rules can help you have the best chance for approval.

You will also need to keep an eye on the number of new credit card accounts you open. The “Chase 5/24” rule will most likely decline your application if you have opened or been listed as an authorized user on 5 or more new credit cards in the most recent 24 months.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is a rewards Chase credit card. Redeeming your points for award travel helps make each point worth at least one cent.

25% Travel Redemption Bonus

When redeeming your points for award travel on Chase, each point is worth 25% more at 1.25 cents each. This redemption bonus is how the 60,000 point signup bonus is worth $750 but only $600 when redeeming every bonus point for non-travel rewards.

Expedia powers the Chase award travel portal. You can enjoy the 25% bonus on any type of award travel, including flights, hotels, rental cars, cruises, and tours. If you don’t want to use all your points on one purchase, Chase also lets you pay with points and cash.

1:1 Transfer Partners

You might find more value in the 1:1 airline and hotel transfer partners. In 1,000-point increments, you can transfer your points to their loyalty programs.

No Foreign Transaction Fee Chase Credit Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred may have a $95 annual fee, but you will never pay a foreign transaction fee. As other cards charge up to 3% on international purchases, the savings can more than pay the annual fee if you travel internationally regularly with credit cards.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is the best Chase credit card overall for most award travelers because of its flexibility when booking award travel and its reasonable annual fee. These two advantages make it easy for a beginner or experienced traveler to maximize the value of each point they earn.

We think all of the Chase Sapphire Preferred benefits are worth the annual fee.

Other Perks and Bonus Categories

Don’t forget about the Chase Sapphire rental car insurance benefits that you can also take advantage of when planning any road trips.

The $95 annual fee is easily offset by the perks.

Best No Annual Fee Cash Back Chase Card: The Chase Freedom Flex

The information for the Chase Freedom Flex® has been collected independently by Johnny Jet. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

One of the newest additions to the Chase credit card lineup is the Chase Freedom Flex® by Mastercard. The Freedom Flex replaced the Chase Freedom®, although the purchase rewards structure is similar. The Chase Freedom Flex lets cardholders earn 5% back (up to $1,500) in combined purchases on select categories that rotate quarterly. Activation is required (usually by clicking a link in your email or tapping a button in your account).

These are the Chase Freedom Flex bonus categories:

  • 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in bonus categories each quarter you activate (then 1% back)
  • 5% cash back on travel purchased through Chase Travel
  • 3% cash back on dining at restaurants, including takeout and eligible delivery services
  • 3% cash back on drugstore purchases
  • 1% on all other purchases

Seeing how many cash-back opportunities that cardholders have, it’s no surprise that this is also one of the best cashback credit cards available.

The Chase Freedom Flex card doesn’t have an annual fee but does have a 3% foreign transaction fee.

Many who have a Chase Sapphire Preferred Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve also have a Freedom product to earn more bonus points. You can then transfer them to your Sapphire account for the travel redemption bonus or 1:1 point transfers. Each point is worth 1 cent each for cash redemptions or award travel you book through Chase Travel℠.

Chase Freedom Flex Bonus

New Chase Freedom Flex® cardholders can earn a $200 bonus after they spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

World Elite Mastercard Benefits And Cell Phone Protection

The Chase Freedom Flex is a World Elite Mastercard (the Mastercard equivalent of a Visa Signature product). Some of the card’s built-in benefits include:

  • $10 Lyft credit after you take 5 rides in a month (one $10 credit per month)
  • 5% cash rewards at Boxed for future purchases
  • Free ShopRunner membership
  • $5 off future movie tickets or at-home purchases with Fandango
  • 10% off onefinestay rental homes and villas
  • Exclusive PGA Tour golf offers and discounts

The complimentary cell phone protection is an exciting benefit and saves you a small fortune. First, you will need to pay your monthly cell phone bill with the Chase Freedom Flex. You get up to $1,000 in yearly coverage benefits. Mastercard lets you make up to two claims per year ($800 max per claim) if your phone is stolen or needs certain repairs. There is a $50 deductible per claim.

The cash-back rewards earned do not expire, so long as your account stays open and active. Plus, unlike other cash-back credit cards, there is no minimum needed to redeem for cash back.

What is Chase’s highest credit card? Chase Sapphire Reserve

The Chase Sapphire Reserve® is the flagship credit card.

New Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholders can earn 60,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That’s $900 toward travel when redeemed through Chase Travel.

People like the Sapphire Reserve for many of its bonuses, perks, and benefits. Here are a few of them.

Earn Points on Travel and Dining

Chase Sapphire Reserve® purchases earn up to 10x Chase Ultimate Rewards® points. Cardholders can earn unlimited:

  • 10x total points on hotels and car rental purchases through Chase Travel℠ (after the first $300 is spent on travel purchases annually)
  • 10x total points on Chase Dining purchases through Chase Travel℠
  • 5x total points on flights when you purchase travel through Chase Travel℠ (after the first $300 is spent on travel purchases annually)
  • 3x points on other travel worldwide (after the first $300 is spent on travel purchases annually)
  • 3x points on other dining at restaurants, including eligible delivery services, takeout, and dining out
  • 1x points for all remaining purchases

You will not receive rewards points on your first $300 in annual travel purchases as the annual travel statement credit reimburses these purchases.

When most flexible credit cards might only pay 2x points per $1 on bonus purchases, you have a higher earning potential. Plus, it doesn’t matter which airline you fly or the restaurant you eat at; you’re earning points.

Bonus Travel Redemption Options

The Sapphire Reserve earns Chase points. They are always worth at least one cent each when redeemed for cash or gift cards. However, points are most valuable for award travel.

You have two different travel redemption options. Both are valuable in their own way.

50% Travel Redemption Bonus

Your points are worth 1 cent each with non-travel rewards. They receive a 50% boost when you redeem them for award travel through Chase Travel℠. Expedia powers this portal, so you have plenty of travel options. From flights, hotel nights, cruises, and anything in between, your points are worth 1.5 cents each.

This can be a better option for non-airline award travel and for booking travel with non-Chase travel partners. The second redemption option is usually more valuable for booking award flights.

1:1 Point Transfers to Airlines and Hotels

The 50% travel redemption bonus is already one of the most valuable point redemption options for any credit card. But, your points can be worth more than 1.5 cents each when you transfer them to an airline or hotel transfer partner. In 1,000-point increments, you can transfer your points to your airline or hotel account for free.

Because airline miles tend to be more valuable than hotel points, you’re usually better off transferring your miles to an airline. Then, you book an award flight. One of the best hotel transfer partners is World of Hyatt. For many Hyatt award nights, you can usually get a per-point value greater than 1.5 cents each.

In Summary of the Chase Sapphire Reserve

Keep in mind that the Sapphire Reserve has a $550 annual fee. If you’re a frequent traveler, the benefits, like Sapphire Reserve trip delay insurance, can easily save you more than the annual fee cost.

If these extra benefits don’t help you, look at the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card. The Sapphire Preferred Chase credit card only costs $95 a year, and you still get a 25% travel redemption bonus and 1:1 point transfers. You can review our comparison of the Chase Sapphire Reserve vs. Chase Sapphire Preferred to help you decide which is best for you.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve is a premium travel rewards credit card. That means you enjoy other card benefits in addition to flexible point redemptions.

Some of these extra benefits include:

Sapphire Reserve Bonus

New Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholders can earn 60,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That’s $900 toward travel when redeemed through Chase Travel.

With the 50% travel redemption bonus, these points are worth $900 in award travel. But they can be worth more with the 1:1 point transfers.

These are a few reasons why this is one of our favorite Chase credit cards.

Best Chase Credit Cards for Business: Ink Business Preferred Credit Card

You can also earn points on your business purchases too. There are several Chase business credit cards, but the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card is the best for earning travel or cash rewards. The card isn’t as benefit-rich as the Sapphire Reserve, but it’s a solid option for business owners. Plus, its annual fee is only $95.

Also, the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card can be your third leg in the “Chase Trifecta.” You can pool your points with your other Chase credit cards. If you own the Ink Preferred and Sapphire Reserve, you maximize both business and personal purchases.

Get an award travel bonus worth $1,125

New Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card cardholders can earn 90,000 bonus points after spending $8,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That’s $900 cash back or $1,125 toward travel when redeemed through Chase Travel℠.

This is one of the best credit card offers.

Earn Up to 3 Points on Purchases

Every year, you can earn 3 points per $1 on the first $150,000 in combined spending for these categories:

  • Travel
  • Shipping Purchases
  • Internet, Cable, and Phone Services
  • Advertising on Social Media and Search Engines

After reaching the $150,000 spending cap, your remaining purchases earn 1 point per $1 for the rest of the year. All non-bonus spending categories earn an unlimited 1 point per $1 spent with the Ink Business Preferred Credit Card.

25% Travel Redemption Bonus

Like the Sapphire Reserve, you can enjoy 1:1 point transfers and a travel redemption bonus. For the Ink Business Preferred, you get a 25% travel redemption bonus. This means your points are worth 1.25 cents on the travel portal and 1 cent each for non-travel awards.

Once again, you might find a better deal by transferring your points to a 1:1 travel partner.

Cardholders can redeem points for cash back, gift cards, travel, and more (points are worth 25% more when redeemed for travel through Chase). Points don’t expire as long as the account is open. Additionally, cardholders get fraud protection and zero liability. Purchase protection covers new purchases for 120 days against damage or theft, up to $10,000 per claim and $50,000 per account.

A Quick Word About the Chase 5/24 Rule

While both of these Chase credit cards are valuable additions to your wallet, you need to keep the “5/24 Rule” in mind.

Chase has an unofficial policy where your application for Chase credit cards is declined when you apply for five or more credit cards in the last 24 months. Even being listed as an authorized user counts as one of the 5 applications. It doesn’t matter which bank you applied to, and it doesn’t matter if one of those five applications was declined. All applications are viewed the same.

So, before applying for one of the Sapphire cards or the Ink Business Preferred, make sure you have fewer than 5 credit card applications in the most recent 24 months. If you’re unsure how many credit card applications you have, you can find out with your free credit score.

Time Chase Card Applications Smartly

Also, you may have to space your applications if you want both of these cards. One option is to wait at least three months between applications. This gives you time to earn the signup bonus with each card. Plus, some Chase card owners report having their second application declined when it was submitted within three months of the first card.

Chase Transfer Partners

We’ve mentioned Chase’s transfer partners several times now. Here is the full list of partners:

  • Aer Lingus AerClub
  • Air Canada Aeroplan
  • British Airways Executive Club
  • Emirates Skywards
  • Air France KLM Flying Blue
  • Iberia Plus
  • JetBlue TrueBlue
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
  • Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards
  • United MileagePlus
  • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
  • IHG Rewards Club
  • Marriott Bonvoy
  • World of Hyatt

Hopefully, we’ve explained how valuable Ultimate Rewards can truly be, especially if you like flexibility and use the airline and hotel partners. As you can see, many of these partners have properties and airport hubs around the globe.

What is a good credit card to get from Chase?

The competition to find what is a good credit card to get from Chase is tough. But, the Sapphire Preferred, Reserve, and Ink Business Preferred take the top spots for us. With these Chase cards, you know you earn the most points on each purchase. Plus, you have great redemption options and card benefits.

If you could only use three of the best Chase credit cards for all of your travel and non-travel spending, which credit cards would you use? While you could do a flexible travel rewards credit card and your favorite airline and hotel card, you might not get the most value out of every dollar you spend. That’s why you should consider the “Chase Trifecta,” which will let you enjoy some of the most valuable point redemption values of any credit card rewards program by maximizing 3 of the best Chase credit cards.

Flying United with Chase Ultimate Rewards transfers is a beautiful thing!

What is the Chase Credit Card Trifecta?

The literal meaning of a trifecta is a type of bet in horse racing where you must choose the top three finishers. As you might guess, the Chase trifecta is the top three cards that earn the highest amount of points on each purchase. By owning three of the best Chase credit cards, you can earn up to 5 points on any purchase. It doesn’t matter if it is travel or non-travel-related!

As you may already know, each Chase point is always worth at least one cent (10,000 points = $100). For many other credit cards, this is the most any reward point is worth for select rewards like cash back or award travel. With the Chase trifecta, your points can even be worth at least 1.25 cents apiece when you redeem them for award travel. Suddenly, those same 10,000 reward points can be worth $125 or more depending on how you redeem them for travel.

How To Complete The Best Chase Credit Card Trifecta

Not any Chase credit card can be used to complete the Trifecta. You will need the three following cards:

Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

Ideal Purchases: Travel and Dining
Annual Fee: $95

Many travelers think of the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card as the best travel credit card as your points are worth 1.25 cents each when you redeem them for any award travel on the Chase travel portal. Alternatively, they can be transferred to many 1:1 air travel and hotel loyalty programs like United, Southwest, British Airways Avios, Hyatt, and Marriott.

Chase Sapphire Preferred Bonuses and Perks

You can earn unlimited 5x points on travel purchased through Chase, 3x points on dining, and 2x points on all other travel purchases, in addition to the flexible redemption options. You will earn the base rate of 1 point per $1 on all remaining purchases.

New Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card cardholders can earn 60,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 in purchases in their first 3 months from account opening. That’s worth $750 when redeemed through Chase Travel℠.

Use the Chase Sapphire Preferred for your travel and dining purchases to earn at least 2 points for every dollar spent.

If you also want to enjoy premium travel rewards like a $300 annual travel credit and free airport lounge access, you need to try for the Chase Sapphire Reserve benefits instead, although the annual fee is $550. It also earns 5x total points on flights and 10x total points on hotels and car rentals when you purchase travel through Chase Travel℠ immediately after the first $300 is spent on travel purchases annually. Earn 3x points on other travel and dining & 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases.

Ink Business Preferred Credit Card

Ideal Purchases: Travel and Business-Related Purchases (3x points on first $150,000 in combined spending)
Annual Fee: $95

You need to qualify for a business card account (i.e., be self-employed or own a small business) to apply for the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card. The Chase Ink Business Preferred is the business version of the Chase Sapphire Preferred. Your points are worth 1.25 cents each when redeemed for travel, or you can transfer them to a 1:1 Chase travel partner.

Since this card earns 3x points on travel, use the Ink Preferred to book your trips until you max out the $150,000 spending limit. After that, you will only earn 1 point per $1 for travel and business category spending, so use the Chase Sapphire Preferred after this point for travel (yes, you can have both the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred). You will earn 3x points on the first $150,000 spent in the following purchase categories:

  • Travel
  • Shipping purchases
  • Internet, cable, and phone services
  • Social media and search engine advertising

Cardholders can redeem points for cash back, gift cards, travel, and more (points are worth 25% more when redeemed for travel through Chase Travel℠). Points don’t expire as long as the account is open. Additionally, cardholders get fraud protection and zero liability. Purchase protection covers new purchases for 120 days against damage or theft, up to $10,000 per claim and $50,000 per account.

Chase Freedom Flex – Best Chase No Annual Fee Card

Ideal Purchases: Everyday Purchases and Rotating 5x Points Bonus Categories
Annual Fee: $0

The Chase Freedom Flex® is a tiered cash-back rewards card with no annual fee. By owning either the Ink Business Preferred or a Chase Sapphire, your points can be redeemed at 1.25 cents for Chase award travel or transferred to a 1:1 travel partner.

Where the other two card families (Ink and Sapphire) will only earn 1 point per $1 on everyday purchases, you can earn 5 points per $1 on the first $1,500 each quarter in select categories (7,500 points vs. 1,500 points) that are activated. The bonus categories change every calendar quarter.

For the quarters where some of the bonus categories overlap with the Sapphire travel and dining bonus rewards, use the Chase Freedom Flex to earn 5 points instead of 2 points until you spend $1,500 or the bonus category changes.

Chase Freedom Unlimited: Up to 5% Cash Back on All Purchases

If you would rather earn at least 1.5x points per $1 for all spending without having to worry about activating any bonus categories, the Chase Freedom Unlimited® is the option you may be looking for.

Cardholders earn unlimited:

  • 5% cash back on travel purchased through Chase Travel℠
  • 3% cash back on dining at restaurants, including takeout and eligible delivery services
  • 3% cash back on drugstore purchases
  • 1.5% cash back on all other purchases

There is a $0 annual fee with the Chase Freedom Unlimited.

New Chase Freedom Unlimited® cardholders can enjoy an additional 1.5% cash back on everything they buy (on up to $20,000 spent in the first year) – worth up to $300 cash back! So, they’ll earn 6.5% cash back on travel purchased through Chase Travel℠, a premier rewards program that lets you redeem rewards for cash back, travel, gift cards and more; 4.5% cash back on drugstore purchases and dining at restaurants, including takeout and eligible delivery service, and 3% on all other purchases (on up to $20,000 spent in the first year).

And yes, you can have both the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Freedom Unlimited if you want to get the best of both worlds.

Just Don’t Forget the Rules

One of the most dreadful barriers to getting the best travel rewards credit cards is the Chase 5/24 Rule. If you have five new credit cards in the last 24 months, Chase declines your application until you only have four new credit card accounts in the most recent 24 months. Since Chase has many of the best travel rewards credit cards, they have been applying the 5/24 rule to most co-brand airline and hotel cards.

Your only option can be to wait until you are “4/24” and hope the rewards card you want is still available or has an enhanced signup bonus. If you don’t have five new credit cards (either as the primary or authorized user) in the most recent 24 months, you might try applying for one of these cards.

How To See If Chase 5/24 Affects You

The easiest way to see if you have at least five new credits in the past 24 months is to check your credit report at AnnualCreditReport.com or a free credit score website. The most accurate way is to look at the account age of your credit cards. If five or more accounts have been open for 24 months or less, you need to wait until four or fewer accounts are younger than 24 months.

Which one is the best credit card in Chase Bank?

In my expert opinion, the Chase Sapphire Preferred is the best credit card in Chase. It has a great bonus, awesome spending perks, and earns valuable points.

Best Premium Flexible Travel Rewards: Chase Sapphire Reserve

As the “crown jewel” of the credit cards that earn points, the Chase Sapphire Reserve can be well worth the wait. You will benefit the most from this card if you are a frequent flyer thanks to its air travel benefits:

  • $300 annual travel credit
  • Fee credit of up to $120 for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck
  • Priority Pass Select airport lounge membership

Plus, earn 5x total points on flights and 10x total points on hotels and car rentals when you purchase travel through Chase Travel℠ immediately after the first $300 is spent on travel purchases annually. Earn 3x points on other travel and dining & 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases.

Additional Perks

Another reason to get the Sapphire Reserve is for your flexible redemption options. Your points are worth 1 cent each for cash rewards, gift cards, and Amazon.com shopping credits. But you can get more benefits when redeeming for travel:

  • 50% redemption bonus when booking travel through Chase Travel℠
  • 1:1 point transfers to airline and hotel partners

Some of the 1:1 transfer partners include Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Marriott, and Hyatt.

New Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholders can earn 60,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That’s $900 toward travel when redeemed through Chase Travel.

The annual fee for the Sapphire Reserve is $550. After the $300 travel credit, the effective annual fee is $250. There isn’t a foreign transaction fee.

You’ll need this credit score for Chase Sapphire Reserve approval.

Best Chase Business Credit Card: Ink Business Preferred Credit Card

All three Ink Business cards fall under the Chase 5/24 rule. The Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card has the most valuable signup bonus.

New Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card cardholders can earn 90,000 bonus points after spending $8,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That’s $900 cash back or $1,125 toward travel when redeemed through Chase Travel℠.

You will earn 3 points per $1 on the first $150,000 in combined spending for these purchase types:

  • Travel
  • Shipping
  • Internet, cable, and phone services
  • Advertising on social media and search engines

All other purchases earn an unlimited 1 point per $1 spent.

The annual fee is $95 with zero foreign transaction fees.
