You see a lot of crazy things on the internet, especially when it comes to animals. Imagine what happened before the invention of smartphones, GoPros and the internet? If someone said they got tossed in the air by a humpback whale, no one would ever believe them.

But Max and Jacqueline Payne, YouTubers based in Queensland, Australia, captured video of one of their tour guides getting shot out of the water on a humpback whale’s tail before plunging back in the Coral Sea. Watch the video below:

According to The Telegraph, Jacqueline said, “all of a sudden someone was in the air on top of a freaking whale.” She later added it was “the most insane thing I’ve ever experienced in my life.”

Jacqueline said the tour guide escaped unharmed and was seen smiling and high five-ing the other snorkelers afterwards. He said it was the first time this had happened to him but he was very ecstatic about it.”

They make Australians different because if this happened to me, I don’t think I would be high five-ing people. I would be like, “Yeah, it’s time to get out of the water.”

Here’s what others on social media had to say about the incident, which, unsurprisingly, is mixed:

@Love_rainy_days: Amazing video,  Guy’s Wow never seen a whale do that before. Glad it was not an Orca. The question is was that aggression or an accident on the whale’s part. Good nobody got hurt. Still amazing footage. Glad they made you all get back in the boat.

@axle.australian.patriot: I hope your guide get fined and shut down for interfering with the whales :(

@martinhumble: Go whale!

Hopefully the tour guide wasn’t trying to ride the whale because they would probably get in big trouble. According to Australia Whale Experience “there is no explicit law that prohibits swimming with humpback whales in Australia. However, there are several regulations that have been put in place to protect the species and ensure that the whales are not disturbed while they are in the water. The most important regulation is the Australian Government’s Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). This law requires that people not disturb whales in any way when they are in the water and that they must remain at least 300 meters away from the whales at all times. This law applies to all species of whales, including humpbacks.”
