A disturbing video is going viral on social media, showing a drunk American woman flying between San Francisco to Nadi on Fiji Airways. I find it shocking because I just flew on Fiji Airways four times in November and December (here are a couple of those flight reviews) and their flight crew couldn’t have been any nicer. The video was posted on A Fly Guy Travel’s Instagram page and the caption read: “Intoxicated Racist Karen Restrained on Fiji Airways Flight From USA.”
A Fly Guy posted this description: “Cabin Crew on a Fiji Airways flight from San Francisco to Nadi were forced to take drastic measures to control an intoxicated passenger who launched into a “racist and vulgar” tirade mid-flight. In a video shared by news.com.au, the crew are seen restraining the woman and forcibly moving her to the back of the plane and taping her mouth shut after she continued to scream abuse, throw objects at crew, and slap a flight attendant’s hand. In another video, a crew member can be seen sitting with the woman, trying to calm her while the angry woman screams racist insults at her.
“Despite the intervention, the disruptive behavior persisted for the remainder of the flight. Upon landing, Fijian authorities arrested the woman, and she now faces legal action under the Fiji Civil Aviation Act.”

I, too, applaud the flight crew because I don’t think I could have remained that calm, even if I was the passenger sitting in front. I really hope the Fijian police lock her up for a while to teach her a lesson and most of all, save other passengers from ever experiencing such madness on a long-haul, over-water flight.

As bad as this woman’s behaviour was, “aflyguytravels” needs to up his professionalism. Calling out such bad behaviour as a “Karen” is offensive to many and there are much better ways to describe someone who has offensive behaviour. I, for one, will not be following this gentleman.
