Our thanks to the Sloomoo Institute for hosting us so we could write this detailed review of our experience.
Last year, my kids were invited to check out a sneak peek of the Sloomoo Institute in Los Angeles, which also has locations in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston and New York. In L.A., the Sloomoo Institute is in a big, bright pink building across the street from The Grove on Fairfax Avenue.
But first: What exactly is the Sloomoo Institute? It’s an immersive experience dedicated to the joy of slime. Lots of fun and totally hands-on, think of it like a colorful and squishy playground where kids can poke, stretch and even make their own slime. It’s a creative studio where kids (and adults) can enjoy sensory experiences (think: slime waterfalls and ASMR sounds), have fun and relax. Sloomoo first launched in 2019 and now, with multiple locations across the country, it’s the go-to place for slime lovers.
FYI: At the Sloomoo Institute, guests are invited to write their ‘slime name’ on a nametag. To get your slime name, simply replace every vowel in your name with a double o. So my kids’ slime names are Joock and Ooloovoo. (Sloomoo comes from the word ‘slime’.)

Sloomooversity
This year, on April 14, Sloomoo has launched Sloomooversity, hour-long classes that teach kids the art and science of making slime. In the class, which is separate from the Sloomoo Institute experience, kids get a bit of STEM learning, slime care 101 and are supplied with the ingredients to make their own slime that they can take home. The program changes regularly so each week and features different slime textures. At the end of each class, participants earn a Certified Slimer badge of excellence.
To say my kids were thrilled to roll up their sleeves and get their hands into the slime, would be an understatement. With the help of an instructor, they used an entire container of Elmer’s Glue and mixed it together with a concoction similar to Borax and water.
Stir, stir, stir and then stir some more and eventually the mixture starts to turn into slime. (If you get it on your clothes, which is bound to happen, a solution of white vinegar and water will get it out.)
By tapping into kids’ love of slime, Sloomoo aims to inspire a lifelong love of science in kids. According to the Sloomoo Institute, “74% of parents report children who play with STEM toys show more interest in science, and those who engage in scientific play are 2.5 times more likely to pursue STEM careers.”
Sloomooversity will run every Monday and Tuesday after school, and the course curriculum will change regularly to keep things fresh. The cost is $25 per guest (including sales tax, etc.). One adult per minor will be allowed entry with no cost but no slime making privileges, additional non-slime maker adults will be subject to a $5 fee. As an add on, you can visit the experience after your workshop for $20 per person.
Our kids love The Sloomoo Institute and Sloomooversity is a great after-school activity for kids that teaches them science, art and STEM and will definitely spark their imagination.
