My buddy and renowned tech expert Rich DeMuro shared a tip on his Facebook page that all travelers should take note of.

Here’s what Rich says: “Last night, we were taking a selfie outside of a restaurant and someone walked out and said want me to take that for you and I said yeah and proceeded to hand them my unlocked phone. They said are you worried that I might just walk away with your phone and I played it cool and said nah you can keep it. Realizing the major mistake I just made. I handed a complete stranger my unlocked phone with access to my entire life.

Lesson learned: if you’re going to hand someone your phone take a photo, make sure it’s in the locked mode. This can be tough with face unlock … But on iPhone swipe right to left on the lock screen to go into camera mode and on android use a lock screen shortcut or the double press power button.

It all turned out ok, but whew…”

First of all, if you’re ever taking a selfie or a photo of your loved ones and someone comes up to you and asks if you want them to take the photo for you, follow Rich’s advice. I would also be wary depending on the situation. If they have little kids with them, then you know they’re not going to run off.

That’s why it’s always better if you ask some to take a photo for you but use your best judgement and make sure your phone is locked, and that just the camera app is open.

But if you really want to get great vacation photos, I highly recommend Flytographer. My wife and I have used Flytographer all over the world over the years and doing a photo shoot in a special destination has become a travel tradition our whole family loves. Here are some examples of our photos over the years:
