Using credit card rewards to buy a home is easier with the Rocket Visa Signature® Card. You can get up to 5% back in rewards when getting a home loan through Rocket Mortgage. This card isn’t for everybody. However, its reward potential is valuable for select homebuyers using one of the nation’s largest mortgage providers. It’s time to answer the question, “Is the Rocket Visa hard to get?”

Credit Score Needed for the Rocket Visa Signature Card

A good to excellent credit score of 670 or higher is recommended to get instant approval for the Rocket Visa Signature® Card.

The card issuer doesn’t list a minimum credit score or credit range, although most Visa Signature credit cards and competing rewards credit cards have similar credit score requirements.

An encouraging aspect is that you can pre-apply with a soft credit check to see if you’re eligible. As a result, it doesn’t hurt your credit score if you get declined during the initial step or if you decide not to accept the final credit offer. You have just under a month to approve the prequalification offer and undergo a hard credit check.

Rocket Visa Data Points

There are not many data points about credit card approvals or denials compared to other credit cards. Below are some of the recent insights from people trying to get the Rocket Visa Card.

Sarchin was preapproved for a $5,000 credit limit and a 27% APR with a 743 credit score. This is the minimum initial credit limit for Visa Signature cards. The data point doesn’t include the individual’s current card portfolio and application history to determine why they didn’t potentially prequalify for a higher spending amount.

Interestingly, CYS_1882 was declined with a 748 credit score, a $105,000 annual income, and has only had three credit card inquiries in the past 24 months. The card issuer didn’t provide a clear-cut denial reason. But, one assumption was opening three cards within 15 months with a six-month waiting period between cards. This initial denial during the soft credit check is unexpected. However, similar reports are from people with overlapping credit histories.

To gather another data point, I was pre-approved for a $10,000 spending limit and a 21.9% variable APR. I have an 800 FICO Score from Experian. It has been 2.5 years since I opened my last credit card. So, a string of recent inquiries doesn’t drag down the initial credit limit.

Is Rocket Visa Hard to Get?

The Rocket Visa Signature® Card is relatively complex to qualify for. Here are several tips to get approved for a higher spending limit and a competitive APR.

  • Have good credit: It’s best to apply with a credit score above 700. A 740 credit score or above is ideal. You’re firmly within the excellent credit range.
  • Pay current credit cards on time: Be sure to make the minimum monthly payment before the due date each month on your existing credit cards and loans. A missed payment will most likely cause your score to drop and take months to recover.
  • Reduce debt-to-income ratio: Increasing your income or reducing your existing housing costs or debt balances helps reduce your DTI ratio.
  • Avoid repetitive credit card applications: It’s best to wait at least six months before applying for subsequent credit cards. This waiting period allows your score to recover from your most recent application. It also provides an extended buffer when you have several applications within a 24-month period as the older ones may drop off.

You may consider some of the easiest credit cards to qualify for to qualify for when you have imperfect credit or a high DTI ratio.
