Scrolling through social media, I came across a train travel hack that I wish I knew about a long time ago. Ashley Puckett shared a video of herself riding a train in Japan and pressing the lever on the aisle to make the chair swivel 360 degrees. The caption on her video read: “The most exciting thing I discovered on the trains in Japan.” See video embedded below:

It looks like riders could change their position to either face the row behind them, in front of them, or to the side to look out the window. This is particularly helpful if you don’t like sitting backward and all the seats are full.
It also could be helpful if your seatmates across the way are annoying you; you can just change your position. The best part of this post are the captions and many claim this works around the world. See some of them below:
@0163sk: In a lot of other countries too actually! 👌🏻
@lionheartkf: Same in Australia.
@dr.singh_shivani23: It’s the same in Indian Vande Bharat trains.
@nelanomad_67: Pretty sure Jersey train does the same.
I’ve been on trains in all of these places and it’s too bad I didn’t know about this tip earlier. I definitely would have tried it out. I’m making a mental note for future trips. I just looked at my photos from my last trip to Japan and it looks like the train I was on had a similar lever. See photo above.
Here are some other popular comments.
@badash1983: I can’t travel backward because I get motion sickness, so this would be a good option.
@seezykhalifa: Imagine sitting with a 10-year-old 😂you will be spinning the whole journey.
@jayded.jay: Imagine just minding your business enjoying a train ride, then the person in front of you just spins the seat around and is now staring you face to face. 👀😆
Did you know train seats can do this and have you ever been on a train with rotating seats?
