American Airlines (AA) has just launched one of its biggest promotions yet and it’s the perfect opportunity to book your next getaway with as few as 5,000 miles one way. Whether you’re craving a sunny, relaxing beach escape or a busy city break, now is the time to take advantage of this limited-time offer.
A Million Seats at Incredible Prices
For a short time (now through May 28), American Airlines is offering one million seats in its Main Cabin for as low as 5,000 AAdvantage miles one way, giving you the chance to travel across the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America at a fraction of the number of miles you’d usually need. This is one of the airline’s biggest AAdvantage promotions that I can remember.
What You Need to Know
The most important thing to know before you start doing a mad search like I did, is that it’s only available for flights departing between August 1, 2025 and September 30, 2025. I was searching for June and didn’t see any. But then I looked for Los Angeles (LAX) to San Francisco (SFO) for a possible road trip we’re thinking about doing and there was plenty of availability, especially mid-week (see screenshot below).
Also keep in mind that availability is limited. Mileage amounts listed are subject to change based on availability. The offer is valid for flights in Main Cabin within the contiguous 48 U.S. states and between the contiguous 48 U.S. states and Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America destinations. It excludes: San Jose, Costa Rica; Panama City, Panama; Managua, Nicaragua; Guatemala City, Guatemala; San Salvador, El Salvador; San Pedro Sula and Comayagua, Honduras.
AA.com can be tricky to search because they typically don’t show you the cheapest fares at the top. They show you what they consider the best, but I always click the bottom of the two little triangles above the fares to reveal the cheapest available fare (see the red circle in the screenshot above). I also set fare alerts before and after purchasing to monitor the cash price. Here’s how to track airfares by signing up for fare alerts
If you’ve been collecting AAdvantage miles, this is a good opportunity to maximize your rewards and it’s a good way for American to fill seats during what is typically a slow period (usually starting the second half of August when kids either go back or are getting ready to go back to school).
Don’t forget that taxes and fees are still applicable, usually $5.60 per leg for domestic travel.
