There are so many things to do with kids in Los Angeles but one of our favorite places to take the kids is the Los Angeles Zoo. We all love it, it’s not just for kids and no matter how many times we go, we leave saying we can’t wait to return. RELATED: 10 Tips For Your Trip to the Los Angeles Zoo

Our most recent visit to the Los Angeles Zoo may very well have been our most special. We attended L.A. Zoo Lights: Animals Aglow and it was incredible. Truly spectacular. Our kids loved it but truthfully, I was blown away. I walked around wide-eyed and mesmerized through the entire exhibit. It’s one of the coolest things I’ve done in a long time.

L.A. Zoo Lights: Animals Aglow is an immersive landscape that’s filled with incredible lantern sculptures of animals, flowers, trees and so much more. It’s a nighttime experience – all the sculptures are illuminated, creating a dazzling display of light and color.

Take a virtual tour of the exhibit but keep in mind, the pictures just can’t capture the true beauty and magic of the displays. They really do need to be experienced in real life.

The butterfly garden was one of my favorite parts. The butterflies are huge and change color. Just beautiful.

Swans in love.

Animal displays like this one can be seen throughout the zoo. Of course, the actual animals are asleep while visitors tour the zoo at night but this is such a unique experience that’s bound to spark your child’s imagination. In fact, our six-year-old son was so inspired that he asked me to help him start a blog so that he could write all about it. So the very next day, we did.

The kids loved this light display that simulated an underwater experience.

My kids called this The Rainbow Tunnel, an extraordinary number of lights hanging down to create an archway. The colors change as you walk through and it’s really quite beautiful.

The exhibit, a true celebration of nature, runs until January 22, 2023. Find more information here and buy tickets here. For more special, one-of-a-kind experiences at the Los Angeles Zoo, including the upcoming Lunar New Year experience, click here.
