I’m not sure what to make of this story because not everything seems to be adding up. However, ABC News is reporting that “a 30-year-old woman from Maui has gone missing after flying into Los Angeles a week ago and her family is asking the public for help finding her. Hannah Kobayashi was supposed to continue to New York after just a brief layover at Los Angeles International Airport. But she apparently missed that connecting flight. Her family says the last they heard from her was in a few cryptic text messages in which she said someone was trying to steal her identity.”
This is obviously a disturbing situation but it’s not clear if Hannah has chosen to go off the grid herself or is the victim of something terrible. But hopefully, her family will have some positive answers soon as Hannah’s father has flown to Los Angeles to help search for her. Her phone last pinged at LAX but is now dead.
According to her father, per Eyewitness News, “he says after Hannah missed her flight to New York last Friday night she started sending odd texts to family members mentioning a “spiritual awakening,” apologizing about craziness and then texting: “was definitely intercepted.”
What’s frightening is that Hannah texted another friend stating that someone may be trying to steal her money and identity. Hannah’s aunt said her behavior is out of the norm and that she’s very responsible. Hannah was apparently planning on attending an event in New York City, which she spent a couple of hundred dollars on, and a hotel room that was a couple thousand dollars.
Social media sleuths say that a photo posted to Hannah’s Instagram account was taken at an event held at The Grove. And a video on YouTube appeared to show Hannah. Let’s just hope she’s fine.
This is a good reminder for anyone traveling to always inform your close friends and family of your travel plans, whereabouts, and always have your phone charged (always travel with a portable phone charger). If you miss your flight, text or email your loved ones with your immediate plans, including where you plan to spend the night and when your connection is.
