Just a short time ago, dozens of passengers were forced to evacuate an American Airlines Boeing 737-800 at Denver International Airport. According to CNN, AA 1006, en route from Colorado Springs to Dallas-Fort Worth with 172 passengers and six crew members aboard, was diverted to Denver around 5:15 p.m. local time after the crew reported “engine vibrations,” the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed in a statement.

Multiple videos have gone viral, including a few embedded below:

This was undoubtedly a terrifying experience and will likely fuel the anxiety of those already afraid to fly, following a series of incidents — including the American Airlines regional jet that crashed into the Potomac River in January and the Delta Air Lines plane that crash landed in Toronto.

Thankfully, it appears that all passengers survived, though six were taken to the hospital.

Having flown over three million miles and been on thousands of flights, I’ve only had to divert once (thankfully), due to smoke in the cabin. While nerve-racking, we didn’t have to evacuate in a panic like these passengers did.

Let’s hope this string of incidents ends here. But if, God forbid, you ever have to evacuate, don’t grab your bag like some of these passengers did. Just follow crew instructions and stay calm.
