Use this reader tip if you're still trying to reach an airline for help

Each Friday, we feature a reader-inspired tip as our Travel Tip of the Day. This week’s tip comes from an anonymous reader who wrote in after reading this post with some help for people still trying to reach an airline to get a refund (or for other help):

“I’ve had great success reaching Southwest via Twitter. Last Friday I got a response within 15 minutes.”

Airlines are dealing an unusual number of requests on Twitter just as they are over the phone, but you never know. If you’re unable to get through over the phone and the flight you’re calling about is more than a few days away, my advice is still to wait and try to reach the airline again later (and to read this story before you ask for a refund). But if you need to get through, an airline’s Twitter handle, like its international phone numbers, is worth trying. Here are the main Twitter handles for the major U.S. airlines:
