In case you’re new here, I’m a certified avgeek (aviation geek) who loves spending time in large international airports, daydreaming about all the different airlines.
My favorite planes to spot at LAX (usually while at In-N-Out or The Proud Bird), are Air Tahiti Nui, Qantas (there’s something about that red and white kangaroo tail and the far-flung destinations), and, of course, Fiji Airways, especially since my family and I flew with them four times late last year. Here’s one of my trip reports.
I also enjoy seeing ANA’s (All Nippon Airways) “Flying Honu” A380, which features turtle-themed liveries and typically operates on the Tokyo to Honolulu route, as well as their Star Wars-themed planes. And who could forget about EVA Air’s Hello Kitty-themed aircraft?
The latest plane I’m excited to see was just unveiled today, thanks to JetBlue’s partnership with Nintendo. The Cloudtop Cruiser (tailfin number N561JB) is an Airbus A320 featuring Mario and friends Princess Peach, Luigi, Bowser, Donkey Kong and Yoshi.
Growing up in the 80s, I played Donkey Kong on Nintendo, so I’ve been a Super Mario fan since childhood. However, I’ve never really gotten into the more recent video games, probably because I subconsciously knew I’d get addicted and my productivity would plummet. (I had to delete Spider Solitaire off my computer for that very reason and that was just a one-dimensional game!)
That said, I’ve watched the Super Mario Bros. Movie multiple times since my kids love it. I’ve also visited Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood, which really brings the world of Super Mario to life with its interactive ride. So, I know these characters well, and this bright, colorful design will definitely bring ‘Super Star’ smiles to my kids and other passengers.
According to a JetBlue press release, the fun doesn’t stop there. “Customers will be greeted by Mario and friends on the welcome screen of their seatback entertainment touchscreens. From the outside to the inside of the aircraft, the Cloudtop Cruiser is designed to make every trip feel like an adventure through the Mushroom Kingdom.”
My kids already love flying JetBlue, thanks to the fun snacks and in-flight entertainment, but this is going to take their excitement to the next level.
