If you’re a fan of gooey, chocolatey goodness (and let’s be honest, who isn’t?) then today, August 4, is a day you’ll want to mark on your calendar. In celebration of National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, DoubleTree by Hilton is inviting everyone, not just hotel guests, to stop by and pick up one of its beloved signature cookies for free.
That’s right: no room key, no reservation. Just walk into any of the nearly 400 DoubleTree hotels across the U.S. on August 4 and receive a complimentary warm chocolate chip cookie. For those with dietary restrictions, DoubleTree has you covered too. They’ll also be offering their allergy-friendly version, which is gluten-free, vegan, non-GMO and free of the top nine allergens.
“On National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, we’re proud to extend that warmth beyond our hotel guests, offering a taste of the welcoming service that makes travelers feel genuinely cared for,” said Shawn McAteer, brand leader at DoubleTree by Hilton.
Since its introduction in 1986, the cookie has become a cult favorite among travelers. And it’s had quite the journey. In 2019, it became the first food ever baked in space, thanks to a NASA experiment aboard the International Space Station. That very cookie is now proudly displayed at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia.
In 2023, DoubleTree introduced its allergy-friendly cookie, making the experience more inclusive. And this year, the brand is taking things even further with the launch of piebird, a new dining concept set to debut later this year, featuring a dessert cocktail called the “Cookie-tini”, a playful nod to its famous cookie.
But perhaps the most heartwarming chapter in the cookie’s journey came in 2020, when the pandemic shut down travel and disrupted daily life. With people stuck at home, DoubleTree did something special: it released its secret cookie recipe to the public, so people could enjoy the taste of travel in their own kitchens.
We wrote about it back then and you can find the full recipe here. So, if you’re nowhere near a DoubleTree hotel and can’t enjoy their free cookies today, you can still make your own at home!
Whether you’re a road warrior, a cookie connoisseur, or just someone who loves a freebie, National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day is a great excuse to swing by your local DoubleTree.
