In a video circulating online, a Delta Air Lines pilot tells his passengers why he made an “aggressive maneuver” on approach to Minot North Dakota and it’s quite startling and commendable at the same time. Watch the video embedded below:

Threads user @mfahadnaimb shared the video with this caption: “Delta Connection Flight DL3788 (Embraer 175LR N604CZ) from Minneapolis to Minot narrowly avoided a collision with a U.S. Air Force B-52 over North Dakota near Minot AFB. The Delta pilot performed an “aggressive maneuver” to avoid the bomber which was not reported by air traffic control due to the area’s lack of radar coverage. The pilot informed passengers post-maneuver earning applause for his transparency and online praise for his composure.”

The comments are probably everything you’re thinking or wondering as well:

@tonyv2929: I don’t understand this: it’s near a frickin Air Force Base. How can they “lack radar coverage.” ???? This is not the middle of the Atlantic Ocean! I will have to read some more.

@jkeldog: If I remember military aircraft are not required to use ADS-B (it’s voluntary) so it’s likely that ATC didn’t even know the B-52 was there operating in a commercial air space.

@clancy123457: Where the hell is Duffy? Great job by that pilot!

@josh.autry: 1.) It’s a near miss
2.) Based on flight radar it was July 18th
3.) It wasn’t a Delta pilot it was a Skywest Pilot.

No doubt it must have been scary to be on the flight from Minneapolis but thank God the pilot took the appropriate actions. I also appreciate his candid response, which his passengers obviously did too since they could all be heard clapping.

This reminded me of the American Airlines pilot who told his passengers (I was one of them) that although maintenance had cleared our plane from Los Angeles to Honolulu, he said “I’m not really feeling it” and asked for another aircraft. We clapped then, too. The story and video can be found here.
