Yesterday, a passenger posted a video from the Disney Dream cruise ship. She said they “witnessed nothing short of a miracle” as a father jumped in after his daughter fell from the ship.
There’s no video (yet) of how it happened, but there is video of the rescue (embedded below), which took about 25 minutes. According to CMD.91, who is a mom of four:
“We were in our stateroom when we heard “Mr MOB, Mr MOB, Mr MOB… port side”. My husband ran to the balcony because he understood that meant there was a man overboard. Immediately, my heart started racing and I began a constant prayer. Disney acted quick as they tossed out multiple life preserver rings and slowed the ship and began turning as they prepared the small boat to go out for a rescue. As we watched the whole thing go down and I zoomed in, I realized there wasn’t one… but two people in the water. We watched as the boat got to them and I was even more surprised when I saw them pull up a little girl (we heard she was only 5 years old) onto the boat. Followed by who we assume is her father. This man jumped in after her and helped her stay afloat for at least 20 minutes while the rescue team pulled off a rescue I will never forget. God was in this story from the beginning. It happened during the day, while we were cruising very slowly, in very calm seas. I’m so thankful both the man and little girl are safe. And for anyone who wants to judge how something like this happens, it can happen in the blink of an eye. There is zero judgement from me, just so much relief and praise. I cant imagine how exhausted and in shock both of these people are. If you do go on a cruise in the future and have a balcony, please don’t let your kids unattended outside and keep the furniture away from the edge. #disneydream”

They don’t know how it happened, but here are some of the top comments:
Jess: That dad is an absolute hero! To jump off a cruise ship into the ocean (and survive!!) and be able to find his little girl and tread water while holding her up for 25+ minutes…is nothing short of astounding and an actual miracle in itself that they both survived.
renee.aerial.rph: God didn’t answer any prayers. He didn’t do anything. People did. Disney did. Disney has a man-overboard detection system. They train their employees to do these rescues. Religious people will watch people save lives of other people and then credit someone/thing else entirely. That is so inappropriate. Give credit to where it is due and advocate for more cruise lines to add MOB technology. People saved their lives today. People made the decision to add the technology. People pulled them from the ocean. Not god. People.
AliDRC: As a former crew member for DCL they literally are the best I miss them all and god was with them today!
I just got off of a European Princess cruise with my five- and eight-year-old children. I wasn’t afraid of them falling off since they know not to climb up on the railings. However, I was worried that some demented person might throw them off like has happened at malls.
I made sure I always had my eye on them and prayed that if, God forbid, something like this happened, I would be somewhat prepared. In my mind, I would run towards the back of the ship since they’re moving at a good speed and jump in while yelling HELP and throw anything that would float into the water. I then would (hope) to do exactly what this father did and grab my child and tread water with them until help could come. Thank goodness Disney acted quickly and they’re alright, but 25 minutes in the ocean must’ve been traumatizing to say the least.
