You may have your eyes set on a U.S. Bank credit card as the products offer enticing rewards with competitive annual fees. This bank may also may your go-to if you already have a checking or savings account and want to be loyal. Regardless of your motives, you should know the necessary credit score for a U.S. Bank credit card.

Credit Score Needed for U.S. Bank Credit Cards

Usually, most banks don’t share their credit guidelines or credit card application rules. U.S. Bank is a rare exception that at least provides some fundamental insights into the minimum credit score required.

Here is what the bank discloses on its credit card page:

What credit score is needed to apply for a U.S. Bank credit card?

“U.S. Bank card credit score requirements vary by product. In general, our credit card products are for established credit with a credit score in the good to excellent range. The Secured credit card products are built for people looking to build or rebuild their credit with responsible use with fair credit score ranges.”

What is a good credit score?

“A credit score of 700 or above is considered good. Credit scores range from 300 to 850 – the higher, the better.”

As a result, most U.S. Bank credit cards require a credit score of 700 or higher, which is the middle of the good credit score band. Historically, 670 is the start of good credit, and 740 is when excellent credit begins.

There are no additional application rules beyond the signup bonus terms and conditions that vary by card. Additionally, the premium U.S. Bank Altitude® Reserve Visa Infinite® Card is only for existing customers.
