Premium travel credit cards are the envy of many travelers looking for complimentary benefits to save money on trips and enjoy VIP experiences. However, paying a $500+ annual fee can be difficult to justify if you struggle to use the rewards.

The U.S. Bank Altitude® Reserve Visa Infinite® Card only has a $400 annual fee. Authorized users are also free to add (free secondary cards are a rarity for premium cards).

Featured benefits include:

  • 5x points on prepaid hotels and car rentals booked through Altitude Rewards Center

  • 1x points on all other eligible purchases

Plus, enjoy up to $325 reimbursed annually for eligible travel purchases and takeout, restaurant, and dining purchases.

Other travel benefits include complimentary Priority Pass Select lounge membership, TSA PreCheck or Global Entry application fee credit, up to 30% discounts on Silvercar rentals, and more.

It’s also a metal credit card.

Additional things to note

These perks make this an excellent card for frequent flyers. But it’s also a good option if you want other travel and dining rewards.

Unfortunately, this card doesn’t offer point transfers to airlines and hotels like most premium cards.

However, while this is a fantastic card, you must be a U.S. Bank customer and have excellent credit to qualify. You can open a savings or checking account online and potentially waive the monthly service fee.

New cardholders can earn 50,000 bonus points after spending $4,500 in the first 90 days of account opening ($750 value).

What Credit Score Do You Need for a U.S. Bank Altitude Card?

You will need good or excellent credit with a credit score of 700 or above to try for the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Visa Infinite Card or the U.S. Bank Altitude Go Visa Signature Card.

The unsecured and secured U.S. Bank Altitude Go credits may only need a fair credit score in the 600s.

Should You Try for a U.S. Bank Altitude Credit Card?

Hopefully, this U.S. Bank Altitude credit cards review has already helped you narrow down your options. Trying for any of the Altitude credit cards can be worth it as you can enjoy competitive travel rewards and multiple bonus categories while paying a potentially lower annual fee.

The U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve is one of the best premium travel credit cards, and its $400 annual fee becomes more attractive as the most similar competitors charge $550 or more per year. However, you must decide if becoming a U.S. Bank customer (if you’re not already one) is worth it as well.

The mainstream U.S. Bank Altitude Connect is also an attractive offering for its price point. It can earn more points on your most frequent purchases than similar cards. But you must decide if the additional benefits and the lack of point transfers are more valuable than the hotel savings benefits and point transfer partners of competing travel credit cards.

The $0 annual fee Altitude Go cards are also worth considering because of the flexible redemption options and annual streaming credits. Cash-back cards usually don’t offer statement credit rewards.

Summary of Best U.S. Bank Altitude Credit Card

Many travelers overlook the U.S. Bank Altitude credit card portfolio but may find that these options are better for them. Note that you won’t be able to transfer points to airlines. However, in many instances, you can get the same perks as other cards. You may also pay a lower annual fee. If you’re not trying to earn a specific currency like Ultimate Rewards®, Membership Rewards®, or ThankYou points, one of these cards might be the option for you.
