If you live in the Midwest, Northeast or even the Southeast, then you already know that the United States has experienced significant snowfall this year, notably in January. In fact, a historic snowstorm on January 21brought unprecedented snowfall to parts of the Southern U.S., including areas like New Orleans, which received 11.5 inches of snow.
A lot of fresh snow makes everything look prettier, but it also makes getting around more difficult – including just walking down your driveway or steps.
Thanks to social media great ideas can spread like wildfire and one that I’m seeing a lot in my feed are people who are skipping shoveling and snow blowing thanks to laying down giant tarps on their steps, sidewalk, driveway and even car. This way, after the snow falls, they just have to pull up the tarp and their steps, sidewalk, driveway and car are perfectly clear. See embedded video below.

I grew up in Connecticut so I know what it’s like to shovel sidewalks and driveways and remove snow from cars and it’s no fun after about five minutes of breaking your back, freezing your fingers off and for some, risking a heart attack.
Others on social agree:
@nicky.in.paradise: My common sense is saying to pull it to the side so that the snow ends up on the side and not at the end of your driveway
@reesiej50: I did the with a tarp. I share steps with my neighbors and she didn’t want it on her side….so SHE had to shovel.
@Multitalentedbrother: I swear I’m on my way to Home Depot for 50 yards of plastic 😂💪🏾
@mrr.postman: This idea been in my head since first time I ever had to shovel
@mr_brown215: Been doing this for years! Little tip.. try it with your car😎6X6 tarp. Don’t ever say I ain’t get you nothing 💪🏽
Since it’s only February, if you live in an area prone to getting snow, then you might want to think about putting a tarp down and working smarter rather than harder. Waterproof tarps are available on Amazon if you don’t have one.
BTW: As one person pointed out, it probably would have been much easier and smarter if the man in the video above had pulled his tarp to the side and onto the lawn rather than down towards the street.
