What is the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey?

First and foremost, the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ Visa® Card is a travel rewards credit card. It earns bonus points on travel-related purchases and dining. It also offers an annual airline statement credit, complimentary travel insurance, and the ability to transfer points to participating airline or hotel loyalty programs.

“Autograph Journey is Wells Fargo’s best travel rewards card to date, designed to help cardholders build journeys as unique as they are by earning points wherever they book travel,” says Krista Phillips, EVP, Head of Consumer Credit Cards and Enterprise Marketing at Wells Fargo.

In addition to earning travel rewards, cardholders can enjoy exclusive access to concerts and other entertainment events. There are several events scheduled in select U.S. cities during 2024.

This card has a $95 annual fee and a $0 foreign transaction fee.

Autograph Journey Signup Bonus

The current signup bonus is the ability to earn 60,000 bonus rewards points after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months. This bonus can be worth $600 in award travel and purchase credits.

This is an easy-to-earn signup bonus that comes with a competitive redemption value.

Earn Up to 5x Points on Purchases

You can earn up to 5 points per $1 on card purchases:

  • 5x on hotels
  • 4x on airlines
  • 3x on other travel and dining
  • 1x on all remaining purchases

This earning potential is competitive with the best travel credit cards. While many competitors require booking travel through the credit card travel portal to earn the most points, this one makes it possible to earn the full rewards when going directly to the hotel or airline.

Points Transfer

The Autograph Journey is able to transfer points to participating airlines and hotels. Point transfer capabilities start on April 4, 2024.

The initial launch partners include:

  • Aer Lingus AerClub
  • Air France-KLM Flying Blue
  • Avianca LifeMiles
  • British Airways Avios
  • Iberia Plus
  • Choice Privileges

More transfer partners will join this list throughout 2024. The credit card issuer hasn’t publicized yet if all point transfers are at a 1:1 ratio and the transfer minimums. If it’s like most programs, anticipate a 1:1 transfer ratio and a 1,000-point minimum. If that holds, that means 1,000 Wells Fargo points can be converted into 1,000 airline miles or hotel points.

However, this perk isn’t exclusive to the Autograph Journey. It is also available on the Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card. Additionally, all points-based Wells Fargo-branded credit cards gain access to this benefit on April 4, 2024.

In addition to point transfers, it’s also possible to redeem your points through the Wells Fargo rewards portal for award travel, gift cards, and purchases. The approximate redemption value is $0.01 per point, which is the average redemption value for credit card points.

$50 Airline Statement Credit

Each year, cardholders can redeem up to $50 in annual statement credits for airfare purchases. This is a valuable perk that reduces the $95 annual fee to $45 after redeeming the credit.

This statement credit, along with earning 4x points on flights, makes this a competitive option for occasional and frequent flyers.

Further, this perk can be easier to redeem than the hotel statement credit that a few rival cards with a similar annual fee offer. You may also prefer this to the one-time airport lounge passes that some flexible credit cards offer instead of travel purchase credits.

Travel Protection Benefits

Travel purchases can be eligible for up to $15,000 in trip cancellation coverage. Eligible itineraries include lodging, flights, and activities that are canceled under a covered reason.

Additionally, you can enjoy other Visa Signature benefits that can help maximize travel and lifestyle purchases.

Autograph Card Exclusives

The Autograph Journey and the no-annual-fee Autograph provide exclusive access to live entertainment benefits. The Autograph Card Exclusives program launched in late 2023 with a Mumford & Sons concert to 1,500 attendees at The Bellwether in Los Angeles.

This program is lining up other live events just for Autograph card family cardholders. These exclusive tickets are available for purchase online.

Wells Fargo Autograph Journey Card Fees

The Wells Fargo Autograph Journey has a $95 annual fee, free additional cards, and no foreign transaction fee.

Credit Score Needed

Wells Fargo doesn’t list a specific credit score, although a good or excellent credit score of at least 670 is ideal. This is the normal minimum credit score to qualify for the best travel credit cards.

Wells Fargo Autograph Journey Pros and Cons

Here are the highlights and weaknesses of the Autograph Journey for earning travel rewards.

Pros

  • Earn up to 5x points on travel purchases directly from the carrier
  • Airline and hotel point transfers
  • $50 annual statement credit for airfare
  • Autograph Card Exclusives for live entertainment events
  • No foreign transaction fee

Cons

  • Limited selection of transfer partners (but growing!)
  • No award travel redemption bonus when booking through Wells Fargo
  • $95 annual fee

Who Should Apply for the Autograph Journey?

This is an exciting product for people wanting to earn from 3x to 5x points on travel purchases with a reasonable $95 annual fee. Additionally, it’s possible to receive the maximum number of points by making travel reservations directly through the airline or hotel instead of having to book through the third-party credit card travel portal.

While this card doesn’t come with a plethora of additional travel benefits like a premium credit card would, the annual $50 airfare statement credit is easy to redeem. You might consider this card if you fly several times per year to enjoy the one-time discounted flight and the ability to redeem points for future flights.

Summary

In conclusion, the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ Visa® Card is the highest-earning travel credit card from this particular bank. This card makes it easy to earn travel points, redeem the annual $50 airfare credit, and book award trips through Wells Fargo redemptions or point transfers. Additionally, the $95 annual fee and signup bonus make it a compelling option for occasional and frequent travelers.
