Finally, a good travel news story! It seems like so many news stories we read these days are negative so here’s one that will warm your heart.
According to the BBC: “Rock legend Jon Bon Jovi has been praised by police for helping a woman in distress who was on the ledge of a bridge in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday night. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department shared a video of the Bon Jovi frontman and his team who were at the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge when the woman was standing precariously over the Cumberland River. Bon Jovi, 62, and others talked to the woman and helped her come back on to the bridge, police said. “It takes all of us to help keep each other safe,” Ch John Drake said in a brief statement.”
I’ve never had the privilege of meeting Jon but I know many people who have, including my sister, and everyone says he is the nicest person. This video proves it and thank God he just happened to be on the bridge filming a video and noticed the woman. I’m not sure why others didn’t or didn’t bother to stop and help her.
Here are just a few of the most popular comments on YouTube:
@eltanko178: I’m a social worker, and I worked 10 years in crisis response. He did it like a professional: he kept his distance until she was comfortable with him coming closer, he relaxed his body language and mannerisms. Whatever he said to her, it worked. Sounded like he didn’t say much, but listened instead. My hat is off to him. Very well done. Like a professional.
@harveyburton: “Take my hand, we’ll make it, I swear. Woah, livin on a prayer. ” Incredible to see he lives by his words. Fair play Jon Bon Jovi
@Kratos-005: What makes me sad is people actually walked past without helping. Well done, Jon. You’ve got a good heart mate. ️
@monicarey1051: For the man who has everything: good man, good musician and singer and now a savior! What else can you ask for?
@DulceN: Great job, Jon! I think that the woman was silently asking for help from passersby, I’m only glad that she found it and, hopefully, is able to work on her issues.
@AJazzz: I met him in one of his concerts in 2015 in London, he was performing before guns’n roses, managed to take a pic with him, absolute gentleman.
Makes me think of his 1997 song Ugly, in which he sings, “If you could see yourself like others do, you’d wish you were as beautiful as you.” Looks like on that bridge, he may just have helped someone see things differently. Bravo to Jon and his crew.
