“So What’s the Weirdest Thing to Happen to You on a Plane? I’ll Go First!” This was the headline from a recent Reddit thread (embedded below) so obviously I had to click it. It then showed a man seated by a window on a Delta plane playing a recorder. The caption read: “On landing / taxi, this fine gentleman pulled out his recorder and played Amazing Grace for the other 100 or so people on the plane. I’m quite happy he waited until the end of the flight. The comments are hilarious but Reddit makes it kind of confusing to read them with all of their sub threads. So here are the funniest ones and below I will share the weirdest things I’ve seen on a flight.

The most interesting sub thread for this comment was from an off-duty flight attendant who realized she was on the same flight: “Omfg. I think I was deadheading on this flight. I was sleeping and woke up to what I thought was the recorder. I thought to myself… ‘What parent let their kid bring a recorder on a plane??’ But now that I know, I feel quite a lot better that I’m not going crazy and hearing things 😂”

I got stuck in a middle seat years ago next to a young woman carrying an almost life-size doll head with a full head of messy hair. And no, she wasn’t a hairdresser. This was like an emotional support doll head. I slept with one eye open.

Sat next to Robert Stack from Unsolved Mysteries. We were flying into Jamaica from Fla. A woman put her rooster in the overhead bin, but it got loose and landed in his lap.

About 15 years ago, got to my seat and found my neighbor was a drop-dead gorgeous college-age woman, perusing an anatomy textbook turned to the male reproductive system. She stayed on that same page for like 20 minutes. There wasn’t that much text…

The weirdest I’ve seen was someone change their baby’s diaper ON THEIR SEATBACK TABLE. Yep, the entire plane smelled of dirty diaper for the rest of the flight.

Rome–JFK with me being six months pregnant. There is a decent delay because someone checked luggage in but didn’t get on the plane. I’m in the middle seat with my husband on the aisle. The guy next to me on the right pulls out a Costco-sized bag of beef jerky. The smell is utterly nauseating to me. He proceeds to eat through the entire bag while we are still on the tarmac. I am dry-heaving at this point with my head on my husband’s shirt trying to create some kind of filter for that smell. The pilot announces we are taking off just as beef jerky guy finishes the huge bag. I breathe a sigh of relief. Then the guy pulls out another 2-pound bag of beef jerky and starts eating it. It’s been 15.5 years and not only have I not touched jerky since but I can’t have anyone in my family mention it without wanting to hurl.

I have a friend that told me a story that she was next to a very large man who said he was having a day. When he was asleep he was leaning all over her and when they landed he went flying forward. EMS came on when they landed and performed CPR. She found out that he had been dead since some time in the middle of the flight, leaning all over her etc. From now on instead of “have a safe flight” I now say “have a normal flight,” like wtf.

A lady asked me to watch her 5-year-old on the flight because she was sitting 3 rows away. Then told me to put my hand up if he needed anything and she would come up.
If you receive my newsletter, then you probably know that I’ve been on thousands of flights and I’ve seen some mind-blowing behavior. The worst has to be the woman who was sitting across from me on a Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong to Bangkok. She was flossing her teeth with her hair. Another time, a childhood friend of mine wanted to bring a pet snake from Florida home to Connecticut so she wore the snake as a belt through security.
