A lot of travelers despise airports. I’m not one of them. In fact, I’m the exact opposite. I love airports. Sometimes I’ll even show up early or schedule a long layover just to explore and do some plane spotting. Yes, I’m an aviation geek. Here are my top tips for actually enjoying the airport experience instead of loathing it.
If you’re one of those travelers who doesn’t like airports, maybe you’re just going to the wrong ones. If that’s the case, I highly recommend checking out the 20 airports listed below, which Skytrax ranked as the World’s Top 20 Airports for 2025.
The World’s Top 20 Airports For 2025
-
Singapore Changi Airport (SIN)
-
Hamad International Airport (DOH)
-
Tokyo International Airport (HND)
-
Incheon International Airport (ICN)
-
Narita International Airport (NRT)
-
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG)
-
Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)
-
Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO)
-
Munich Airport (MUC)
-
Zurich Airport (ZRH)
-
Dubai International Airport (DXB)
-
Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL)
-
Vancouver International Airport (YVR)
-
Istanbul Airport (IST)
-

-
Melbourne Airport (MEL)
-
Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO)
-
Copenhagen Airport (CPH)
-
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS)
-
Bahrain International Airport (BAH)
I’ve been to all but a few of them, and I can attest to the fact that this list is pretty spot on—except for CDG and FCO. While some parts of those airports might be great, overall, I don’t think frequent travelers would consider Paris or Rome’s main airports their favorites.
My personal favorite airports in the world are Singapore Changi Airport, followed by Hong Kong International Airport and Hamad International Airport in Doha.
There are some airports that rightfully didn’t make the list like Los Angeles (LAX), which I agree is a complete mess but with so much potential. That said, I do love the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT or Terminal B), except for the remote gates, which feel like an eternity to walk to and from. Fortunately, LAX is undergoing major improvements as the city prepares to welcome visitors for global events like the FIFA World Cup (2026) and the Summer Olympics (2028). If you’re interested in what improvements are being made to LAX, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has all of the airport’s capital improvement projects listed here.
Do you agree with Skytrax’s list of the world’s top 20 airports for 2025? Which one(s) do you think shouldn’t have made the cut and which one(s) do you think they missed? Share your thoughts in the comments.
