Is X1 a real credit card?

Yes, the X1 Card is a legitimate credit card as is the X1+ Card.

The X1+ Card describes itself as “a new premium smart credit card that will have the same smart credit limits, unparalleled rewards program, and disposable virtual cards as X1.”

Similar to its no-annual-fee version, the X1+ is a metal credit card constructed with 17g of stainless steel. It is also a Visa Signature product. Additionally, it offers credit limits that can be higher than a typical rewards card for qualified applicants.

Plus, this card can be easier to qualify for than competing cards as it has flexible credit and income application guidelines.

The X1+ Card isn’t a traditional premium credit card as it only has a $75 annual fee and free additional cards. But you can enjoy these highlighted benefits that other similar-priced travel credit cards neglect:

  • Complimentary airport lounge access during flight delays
  • Can purchase one-time lounge visits on demand
  • Trip and purchase protection benefits
  • Disposable virtual cards

On top of these perks, your purchases can earn up to 10 points per $1 that you can redeem directly on participating travel and retail shopping trips.

X1+ Card Benefits

Here is an in-depth look at the travel and retail benefits that will be available to X1+ cardholders.

Airport Lounge Access

One unique benefit is visiting Priority Pass lounges free of charge when experiencing flight delays exceeding one hour. This perk applies to the primary cardholder and four additional guests.

Cardholders can also buy one-time passes to Priority Pass locations.

A full-time lounge membership can be expensive, and this benefit is worth it if you only need occasional access. It’s nice having the option to visit one of the largest airport lounge networks with over 1,000 locations.

However, other credit cards with airport lounge access can be worth the higher annual fee for complimentary membership before you fly, especially if you fly often.

Smart Baggage Protection

Cardholders can receive $100 per day for three days when they are experiencing baggage delays. Additionally, they can receive up to $3,000 in baggage protection per trip.

Trip Cancellation and Car Rental Coverage

Additional built-in travel insurance benefits include up to $5,000 per person per trip in trip cancellation coverage.

Most domestic and international car rentals are eligible for primary collision damage coverage.

Further, retail purchases are eligible for enhanced purchase protection worth up to $10,000 per occurrence, including from porch pirates. The total protection limit is $50,000 per account.

Virtual Cards

You can create multiple virtual card numbers that provide additional security for online purchases and can help categorize your spending by category.

For example, you may use a specific number for streaming subscriptions, and you can close the virtual card when you cancel your streaming plan to avoid unnecessary charges.

Multiple Card Designs

Once your card application is accepted, you can choose from one of these metal card designs:

  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Rose Gold

Silver is the classic card design, but you may consider one of the two new options for additional customization.

Smart Spending Limits

As the X1+ Card analyzes your annual income to determine your spending limit, it’s possible to have a higher credit limit than a traditional unsecured credit card.

Earning X1 Points

It’s possible to earn up to 10 points per $1 on purchases:

  • Up to 10x at participating online stores through the X1 app
  • 4x, 5x or 10x points when referring friends to X1
  • 4x on select travel purchases including Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo
  • 3x each time you spend $1,000 per month
  • 2x on all non-bonus spending

Earning at least 2 points per $1 helps accumulate points faster. Additionally, your qualifying spending (up to $7,500 per month) will automatically earn 3x points after crossing the $1,000 purchase threshold for the month.

Redeeming X1+ Points

You can redeem at checkout with participating travel, retail, and lifestyle brands. Each point can be worth up to one cent for travel redemptions.

Some of the newest travel partners include:

  • Four Seasons
  • Intercontinental
  • Westin
  • Emirates
  • Hawaiian Airlines
  • JSX

The other travel redemption partners are:

  • Airbnb
  • Alaska Airlines
  • American Airlines
  • Delta
  • Hotel Tonight
  • Southwest Airlines
  • United Airlines
  • JetBlue
  • Uber
  • Zipcar

Unfortunately, this card doesn’t offer point transfers to airline or hotel loyalty programs.

Card Fees

The annual fee is $75 for the primary cards. Additional user cards are free when the authorized user is at least 18 years old. A fee may apply for minors.

Additionally, this card doesn’t have a foreign transaction fee.

There are no late fees, but a variable APR applies to balances not paid within the statement period grace period.

Credit Score Required

The X1+ Card doesn’t disclose a minimum credit score although good or excellent credit is recommended (670 or higher). A clean credit history is helpful, and you can prequalify before submitting a formal application to avoid hurting your credit.

Instead of focusing primarily on credit, the card issuer verifies your income during the application process to determine eligibility.

The most-qualified applicants will have a solid credit and income history.

Final Thoughts

The X1+ Card offers several unique features for travelers that want an affordable annual fee along with the best perks of the standard X1 Card, plus a few more. It can be a good option if you only need periodic access to airport lounges but also want a card with several ways to earn bonus points and has respectable travel insurance coverage.

Frequent flyers can still benefit more from one of the best credit cards for airline miles or a full-fledged premium travel credit card with more extensive lounge benefits.
