JetBlue is launching several changes that can make flying the discount airline more rewarding in 2021. For starters, frequent flyers can enjoy a “companion pass.” There are also TrueBlue Mosaic status changes that are worth glancing at. Here’s what you can look forward to in the coming months from JetBlue.

JetBlue Companion Pass

Elite flyers with JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic status can get a five-month companion pass. This loyalty perk runs from January 1, 2021, to May 20, 2021, and lets flyers enjoy a “buy one get one free” discount.

Mosaic members get 50% off both fares in any fare class during this period. This discount doesn’t apply to the fees and taxes (usually $5.60 each way per ticket). As a quick example, buying two tickets that normally cost $300 ($600 for two tickets plus fees and taxes) has a $300 savings.

While the JetBlue Companion Pass discount doesn’t apply to TrueBlue and Points+Cash bookings, Mosaic members don’t have to name a specific travel companion. The accompanying passenger automatically gets a ticket for half off.

In addition to only being able to book cash fares, you will need to call the designated JetBlue customer support hotline to redeem the Companion Pass benefit.

This discount can be a good time to enjoy JetBlue’s Even More Space flight seats that are like business class. Mosaic members can request a complimentary space-available upgrade at the airport before hopping on the plane.

Mosaic members also get their first and second checked bags to fly for free on each flight.

Mosaic Status Changes: It’s Easier to Earn Mosaic Status in 2021

Let’s face it. Air travel volumes in 2021 are likely going to be closer to 2020 than in 2019. As a result, it’s going to be harder to earn elite airline loyalty status without some help. Like JetBlue, other airlines are implementing similar initiatives to reward loyal flyers that have reduced travel schedules.

2021 Mosaic Status Requirements

JetBlue is reducing the Mosaic status requirements by 50% in 2021.

  • 7,500 Mosaic qualifying points
  • 6,000 Mosaic qualifying points and 15 segments
  • $30,000 spent on JetBlue Plus Card or JetBlue Business Card and 4,000 Mosaic qualifying points during the calendar year (exclusively for the 2021 calendar year)

One way to achieve Mosaic status that remains intact is spending $50,000 with the JetBlue Plus Card or JetBlue Business Card.

You will need to achieve one of these five paths to get Mosaic status through December 31, 2022.

As a reminder, JetBlue is automatically extending the 2020 Mosaic status level through 2021.

Additional Mosaic Status Perks

After qualifying for Mosaic status, members will earn 15,000 bonus TrueBlue points as a reward. “Overqualifying” for Mosaic status provides these extra travel rewards:

  • Receive 10,000 TrueBlue bonus points after earning 10,000 TrueBlue points
  • Gift Mosaic status to someone else (valid through 2022) after earning 20,000 Mosaic qualifying points
  • One free round-trip flight certificate (valid for one year in coach) after earning 30,000 Mosaic qualifying points
