I first heard of Danny MacAskill in 2014. He is a Scottish trials cyclist (he’s from Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye). Danny is 36 years old and is arguably the most incredible bike rider in the world. Eight years ago,  I featured a video I recommend watching called Danny MacAskill vs “The Ridge” in the Isle of Skye. That was mesmerizing and I’m happy to say, he and his team (he’s sponsored by Red Bull) are back with another incredible masterpiece that mixes jaw-dropping stunts with beautiful scenery that you absolutely have to take the time to watch.

Danny’s newest video is titled Danny MacAskill’s Postcard from San Francisco and postcard it is! Just to give you an idea of how good it is, my wife, who is sick with Covid and not in the mood to watch anything she doesn’t want to watch, took the three seconds I asked her for to watch. She was so enthralled, she ended up watching the whole five-minute video. That’s how good it is. You just can’t look away. Here it is for you to watch for yourself:

My six-year-old son and three-year-old daughter couldn’t take their eyes off the screen either (my son’s eyes had a worrying gleam in them!) and I had to keep reminding them that Danny is a professional and to never (ever!) try these stunts themselves as they take years and years of hard work and practice.

One of the things l love about the video, besides the fact that it beautifully captures some of the most iconic spots in San Francisco, is that it shows a couple of Danny’s failed attempts and falls, which you know must have hurt so much. But daredevil that he is, he just kept getting up and trying again until he succeeds at the unimaginable task. There’s a lesson in there for all of us.

If Tourism San Francisco spent any money on this video, it was money well spent. If they didn’t, they just got an early Christmas present from Red Bull.
