This week, two American influencers gave the internet a story that is part comedy, part travel cautionary tale. While in Rome, they were supposed to catch an EasyJet flight to Nice, France. Somewhere along the way they were told to head to Tunisair for help … and that’s where the adventure began.
They boarded a plane, filming the moment (embedded below) and captioned the resulting video with: “When the airline employee misheard us when we said we needed a flight to Nice, France, and we landed in TUNIS, AFRICA!” The internet exploded. One of the clips reached more than 20 million views in just one day.

At first I thought this had to be a set-up for clicks. The timing was too good, the reactions too dramatic. Either these women are good actors or they really had no clue. They literally boarded a Tunisair flight to Tunis, somehow still thinking they were headed to Nice. Their paper tickets said Tunis. Every flight has a screen showing its destination. Still, they apparently went along, blissfully unaware of where they were headed.

For context, Tunis is the capital of Tunisia in North Africa. The country borders Algeria on the west and southwest and Libya on the southeast. It is known for its Mediterranean beaches, rich history and colorful markets. Unfortunately, for these two influencers, none of that was on their itinerary.
Once in Africa they tried to explain what happened to an airline agent. From the looks of the video, they were not allowed to disembark in Rome, so they flew all the way to Tunisia before sorting out a new connection.
The response online has been merciless. Comments range from disbelief to pure mockery:
“Two tickets to Nice please.” “Right two tickets Tunis. There you go.”
“They scan your boarding pass. How does this happen?”
“Pulling up Apple Maps is killing me 💀”
“How do you not know where Tunisia is?”
“You should be embarrassed at the number of things you just didn’t read.”
“This is 99.9% on you. The ticket. The screen at the gate. Every screen in the airport.”
And my personal favorite from a Tunisian commenter: “Tunisians watching this understanding Tunisian Arabic, English and French.”
Moral of the story? Always read your ticket, double check the departure screens and maybe pull up a map or two before boarding. Otherwise, your weekend in the French Riviera might just turn into an unexpected adventure in North Africa.
