Here’s something I’ve never seen before and I bet you haven’t either. And judging by the comments, most people don’t really want to see it again since New York City subways are already too crowded. RELATED: VIDEO: Is this for real? NYC subway rat nibbles crumbs off of passed out man’s lips

Brooklyn couple has wedding reception on New York City subway. The Washington Post posted a video on their Instagram (embedded below) with the caption: “Brooklyn newlyweds decided to have their wedding reception on the L train. This caption alone is pretty compelling and would make most people check out the short video, which shows a happy couple entering the train to loud music provided by a DJ. According to the Post, the groom surprised his new wife with a wedding reception on the New York City subway and the L train car had floral decor, catered food and around 50 of their closest friends and family.

The couple opted for the subway as an affordable alternative to a traditional reception and all new riders, including someone dressed as Spider-Man, were welcome to join the festivities.

Now, don’t get me wrong: I love seeing people having a great time and there’s no doubt it’s a creative place to throw a wedding reception (especially if this is how they met). However, like I said before, New York City’s subways are already packed and they’re full of all kinds of characters.

I lived in New York and have taken the subway hundreds, if not thousands, of times and I’ve seen a lot of things but never anything like this. If I surprised my wife with a reception on the subway, it might have been my last surprise. It’s not that Natalie is high maintenance because she’s not but neither she (nor I) would want to inconvenience so many others, risk having some freaks on the train or getting the party shut down within minutes. And I’m not sure how many people dream of celebrating their special day on a hot, stuffy, smelly and dirty subway car. But to each their own.

It’s not clear how long the party lasted but what is clear from the comments is that people had mixed feelings about the whole thing. Here are some of the most popular ones:

@Faissalard: People just want to go to work man.
@love_ascension: I would not be happy about this.
@Jasonfranciskim: It’s a very SELFISH thing to do, I think. Did they ever obtain any permit to do this? I feel almost violated, actually.

But there were also plenty of people who loved the idea:

@Awallex: Sometimes I’m like ‘ughh, people,’ and sometimes I’m like ‘aww, people,’ and this is the latter 👏🏻👏🏻
@hsdavis: Cheaper than a hall, and WAY more fun
@Cleowade: New York will always be that girl!
@jagger2313: Talk about a memorable wedding!!!! Looks fun! Happy for them

According to Google AI, “you cannot rent out a New York City subway for a party, but you can contact the MTA Office of Film & Special Events if you need to move trains or access the tracks.”
