After just getting back from an epic nine-country trip, I can tell you one thing with certainty: it’s hot almost everywhere. We dealt with the heat in places all over Europe—and even Toronto was warmer than expected.

Now I’m back home in Los Angeles, where it’s been plenty hot, and I’m getting ready for another trip to Las Vegas, where the forecast is a blistering 114°F. Needless to say, my portable fans are getting packed again.

These little fans were some of the hardest-working items in our bags. We used them almost everywhere—from exploring the ruins of Pompeii (see the photo above) to walking the waterfront in Kotor, Montenegro (check out the video below).

Each member of my family has their favorite:

I carry: My compact portable handheld fan because it’s lightweight, powerful, and easy to slip into a daypack.
My son loves: The JISULIFE handheld fan because it doubles as a flashlight.
My wife and daughter prefer: A portable fan with an LED battery display, so they always know how much charge is left.

One travel mistake I made? I left my neck fan at home to save a little room in my carry-on. I regretted that decision more than once while walking around in the afternoon sun.

If you’re traveling anywhere warm—or just trying to stay cool at home this summer—I can’t recommend these enough. They’re inexpensive, lightweight, USB rechargeable, and have saved us from feeling miserable more times than I can count.

P.S. With heat waves hitting so many places right now, these have been selling fast. If you’re traveling soon, I’d order one before your trip.
