A Delta Air Lines A350 headed to Tokyo this morning clipped a regional jet while taxiing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Video embedded below shows the tail being ripped off.

According to ABC News: “Delta Air Lines Flight 295, which was en route to Tokyo, was taxiing for takeoff when its wingtip hit the tail of Endeavor Air Flight 5526, which was headed to Louisiana, knocking the Endeavor plane’s tail off, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and Delta. The incident unfolded at the intersection of two taxiways around 10:10 a.m., the FAA said.”
Fortunately, no one was injured on either plane and there was minimal impact to airport operations. An airport spokesperson said in a statement that, “passengers from one of the aircraft are being bussed from the incident to the concourses. The second aircraft taxied under its own power to a concourse where passengers will deplane at their gate.”

Flight attendants were quick to point out why it’s important to keep your seatbelt on while on the tarmac:
@Joelflyguy: I bet there was a fool wanting to get up to use lavatory!
@flygirlpurr1: See this is why they tell you to say seated with you seat belt fastened while the airplane is moving. No, you can’t go to the bathroom until the Captain turns off the seatbelt sign. Ya’ll need to listen, for your own safety 🤷
Others are concerned about all the incidents that seem to be happening. It’s hard to say whether the seeming rise in such incidents can be credited to the fact that everyone has a smartphone and social media these days so every incident is widely shared. Or whether demand is so high that travel suppliers, including airlines and airports, are hiring staff too quickly without substantial training.

@davisxxpr: Delta has lots of big problems lately
