If you’ve ever flown out of Miami’s International Airport (MIA), then you know it’s a bustling hub for South American flights. And if you’ve ever flown to South America, especially to Brazil, then you know the check-in lines can be long because many travelers are carting huge loads of luggage and goods. RELATED: 12 ways to save money on baggage fees

Passenger shrink wraps his friend.

On my last flight to Brazil, I asked the American Airlines check-in agent why passengers were checking in so much luggage, so many bags and even huge boxes of large, flatscreen TVs. She told me that it was because those things are so much cheaper in the U.S. that many Brazilians fly to the U.S. (mostly Miami) to shop and stock up. She said that it’s worth the travel and extra baggage fees.

Another thing I notice when traveling to or from South America and Asia is that many airports have plastic shrink wrap machines to secure luggage. They do this to add an extra layer of protection to their bags so no one steals anything or plants anything like drugs. It also helps if it rains so your luggage stays dry but it’s fairly expensive and seems like a waste of plastic and bad for the environment.

In the video below, you can see that a prankster shrink wrapped his buddy from head to toe, including his head, and his friend could only get around by hopping in small steps. He’s lucky he didn’t fall because he would have done a face plant. It would appear they did this for social media likes but no one seemed to be amused, neither the LATAM check-in agents nor the police who were called over. It’s not clear if they were arrested, though I doubt it.
