What to do if you lose your Global Entry privileges unfairlyRemember the story of the Colorado woman who got fined $500 and lost her Global Entry (GE) privileges because she forgot she had a wrapped apple in her bag going through customs? An apple that Delta had given her? I’m happy to report that she had the fine dropped and got her GE back after she got her local congressman involved. As written in View from the Wing: “Representative Ed Perlmutter (D-CO) said, ‘It didn’t sound right. It sounded excessive. I found myself kind of offended that there would be a $500 fine for an apple wrapped in plastic from Delta.’ He met with Customs and Border Patrol and the Department of Agriculture. And the executive branch dropped the fine and gave the woman back Global Entry.”

It hadn’t occurred to me that getting a government official involved might help, but as proven here, when you have a good case, it’s worth fighting for. If I were stuck in a similar situation, I can now say that this is exactly what I would do. Hopefully, it won’t ever come to that.

H/T to View from the Wing.
