While many airlines are decreasing flights due to high jet fuel prices, United Airlines is expanding. The Chicago based airline just released its summer transatlantic schedule with new nonstop routes from the U.S. to several European destinations, as demand continues to shift toward smaller and more unique travel spots.
United Airlines announced the new seasonal services from its Newark/New York hub as part of its largest summer schedule yet.
New routes launching this summer include:
  • Newark/New York to Split, Croatia (SPU) – 3x weekly, starting April 30
  • Newark/New York to Bari, Italy (BRI) – 4x weekly, starting May 1
  • Newark/New York to Glasgow, Scotland (GLA) – daily service, starting May 8
  • Newark/New York to Santiago de Compostela, Spain (SCQ) – 3x weekly, starting May 27

United is also bringing back several seasonal routes that launched in 2025:

  • Tokyo/Narita to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (UBN) – 3x weekly, starting April 30
  • Newark/New York to Faro, Portugal (FAO) – 4x weekly, starting May 15
  • Newark/New York to Madeira Island, Portugal (FNC) – 3x weekly, starting May 16
  • Newark/New York to Palermo, Italy (PMO) – 3x weekly, starting May 22
  • Newark/New York to Bilbao, Spain (BIO) – 3x weekly, starting May 30
  • Newark/New York to Nuuk, Greenland (GOH) – 2x weekly, starting June 6
In total, United says it will operate nearly 770 weekly transatlantic roundtrips at peak summer levels in 2026, serving 36 destinations across Europe and Greenland, including 14 routes not served by any other U.S. carrier.
The airline says demand continues to grow for smaller European cities and coastal destinations, with travelers increasingly looking beyond traditional hubs like London and Paris.
It’s refreshing to see an airline adding new routes instead of cancelling them. Let’s just hope fuel prices start to go down so others can join the party.
