United Airlines is making a massive international push for 2027, announcing what it calls the largest international network expansion in the airline’s history. Beginning in March 2027, United will add 10 new international destinations across Europe and Asia, including eight cities that no other U.S. airline will serve nonstop from the United States.
The expansion will also mark a major milestone for United’s fleet with the international debut of its new Airbus A321XLR, an aircraft that will allow the airline to open long-haul routes to smaller European markets while still offering a premium-heavy cabin.

United says the service will offer the most business-class seats between San Francisco and Tel Aviv of any airline.
United did not specify the aircraft types for these four routes in its announcement.
🛫 A321XLR: “Born to Explore”
One of the biggest parts of this announcement is United’s new Airbus A321XLR, which will operate five of the new routes: Luxembourg, Toulouse, Ibiza, Valencia and Marseille.
The long-range, single-aisle aircraft will allow United to serve international markets that may not require the capacity of a Boeing 767, 777 or 787 while still providing a premium long-haul experience.
United’s A321XLR will feature 32 premium seats, including:

United says the A321XLR will actually have 16 more premium seats than its Boeing 757-200, an aircraft that has long been a workhorse on many of the airline’s thinner transatlantic routes.
The A321XLR is scheduled to begin flying select domestic routes in September 2026 before making its international debut on December 1, 2026, initially operating from Washington Dulles to Amsterdam and Dublin.
🌎 United continues to bet big on international flying
The airline says it has added 58 international destinations since 2017 and now serves more than 160 international destinations.
United will also bring back the international destinations it launched for summer 2026, including Newark service to Split, Croatia; Bari, Italy; Glasgow, Scotland; and Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
What makes the 2027 expansion particularly interesting is the type of markets United is targeting. Rather than focusing only on major European gateways like London, Paris, Rome and Frankfurt, the airline continues to add destinations that traditionally required U.S. travelers to connect in Europe.
Places like Sardinia, Sicily, Slovenia, the Azores, Ibiza, Valencia, Marseille and Toulouse are increasingly becoming part of United’s nonstop network.
The aircraft strategy is just as interesting: 777-200ER to Okinawa, 767s to Ljubljana and Italy, the 737 MAX 8 to the Azores, and the new A321XLR opening several thinner European routes.
United says tickets for the new routes are available now, with all routes subject to government approval.
