Believe it or not, Spring Break 2023 is here and our friends at Allianz (with whom I have an annual travel insurance plan) have analyzed the data of 2.6 million bookings to see where American Spring Breakers will be traveling in the weeks ahead. RELATED: 8 Affordable Beach Vacations to Take in 2023
To begin with, Allianz found that this year’s Spring Break travel season (February 17 to April 17) will be much busier than last year’s.
For the eighth consecutive year, Orlando, Florida, is the top domestic destination for American travelers, followed by Phoenix, Arizona (#2), New York, New York (#3), Las Vegas, Nevada (#4) and Los Angeles, California (#5). Florida’s beaches and sunshine continue to attract visitors with Fort Lauderdale (#6), Tampa (#7) and Miami (#8) making waves this Spring Break season, while Americans are also heading West to Seattle, Washington (#9) and Salt Lake City, Utah (#10).
Meanwhile, travel to international destinations is growing rapidly thanks to the easing of Covid related restrictions. Mexico has continuously dominated as the number one destination for an international spring vacation, with four of its cities making the international Top 10 destinations in 2023, including Cancun (#1), San Jose del Cabo (#2), Puerto Vallarta (#4), and Mexico, City (#8). Other notable destinations featured on the Top 10 roster this year include London, England (#6), which jumped four positions year over year, and Paris, France (#9), which makes its debut in the top Spring Break getaways list, the first time since the survey’s inception in 2015.
*Methodology: The data of U.S. travelers’ 2023 Spring Break plans was gathered by analyzing the number of customers that went through the online booking process of airfare and package paths for partners offering Allianz Global Assistance travel insurance, to generate itineraries for roundtrip flights departing from U.S. airports during the Spring Break season from 2/17/2023 – 4/17/2023 for trips between 5-8 days in length. In total, just over 2.6 million itineraries were analyzed using this methodology.
