Great news for Southwest Airlines (SWA) flyers. The original low-fare carrier just began allowing their flights to show up on Google Flights. Plus, they have an incredible offer that seems too good to be true until you read the fine print.
Loyal Southwest fans know that the original low-fare carrier has done everything they can to block third-party search engines from displaying their airfares. In doing so, customers were forced to book tickets on Southwest.com. But SWA is testing out a pilot program, which should be a win-win for everyone.
Southwest said in a statement shared with Travel + Leisure: “In our initial piloting of this partnership, we’ve made it possible for Google Flights users to compare our different fare options and click directly into Southwest.com to book their selected itinerary.”
This should be a no-brainer as Southwest will most likely get more business and consumers don’t have to keep remembering to look for SWA deals on their website. It will make it much easier for consumers to compare and track fares.
Coveted Companion Pass
The other good news is that Southwest is celebrating five years of serving five airports in the Hawaiian Islands and for a limited time (ending May 24), Southwest has an incredible deal: Fly round-trip to Hawaii and then bring a friend for free every time you fly. You just have to pay your companion’s taxes.
Here are the details
-To be eligible you need to be a Southwest Rapid Rewards Member (it’s free to sign up and takes two minutes tops).
-You need to book one round trip or two one-way flights in June or July 2024 between the mainland U.S. and the Aloha State.
-The Companion Pass allows Members to designate one person to fly with them for free every time the Customer purchases a fare or redeems points for a flight during the pass’s validity.
The fine print
The companion can only fly for free between October 5 and November 15, 2024. This is one of the slowest periods of the year and a clever way to get publicity and fill up their airplanes for little cost.
