A reader just asked me this excellent question: “We are looking for a convenient central hotel to stay in Copenhagen in August. Any ideas?” ~ Paula
First off, Copenhagen in August is always a good idea. In fact, it’s probably my favorite time of year to visit. The weather is usually pleasant, the days are long, outdoor cafés are buzzing, and the city is alive. That said, I also visited in November and had a wonderful time, even though it was freezing cold. Full disclosure: I’m part Danish, so I might be a little biased.
When it comes to choosing a hotel, location matters. Copenhagen is a very walkable city and staying in the right neighborhood can save you a lot of time. For most visitors, I recommend looking in or around Nyhavn, Kongens Nytorv, or Tivoli Gardens. These areas put you within walking distance of many of the city’s top attractions, restaurants, shopping streets and waterfront views. They also offer easy access to the Metro, including direct connections to and from Copenhagen Airport.
Here are a few hotels that I think are worth considering:
71 Nyhavn Hotel
If you want the classic Copenhagen experience, this is a great choice. Located right on the waterfront in the colorful Nyhavn district, it offers plenty of charm and puts you in one of the most photographed areas of the city.
Admiral Hotel Copenhagen
Another excellent waterfront option. The location is hard to beat, and you can easily walk to major sights including Amalienborg Palace, Nyhavn, and Strøget.
Radisson Collection Royal Hotel
A Copenhagen classic designed by famed architect Arne Jacobsen. It’s located near Tivoli Gardens and Central Station, making it especially convenient for first-time visitors.
NH Copenhagen Grand Joanne
This stylish boutique hotel has become increasingly popular in recent years. It’s close to Central Station and offers easy access to both the city center and the trendy Vesterbro neighborhood.
Absalon Hotel
If you’re looking for a solid mid-range option, Absalon is a good choice. It’s family-friendly, well-located, and typically offers good value compared to some of Copenhagen’s pricier hotels.
Scandic Copenhagen
One reader also recommended the Scandic Copenhagen, noting that the pricing is reasonable, the hotel is modern and well maintained, and the breakfast buffet is excellent. It’s located next to the Planetarium near Vesterport, making it an easy walk to Tivoli Gardens and well connected by bus. It sounds like another solid choice, especially if you’re looking for good value in a convenient location.
If budget isn’t a concern, I would also take a serious look at Nimb Hotel. Located right next to Tivoli Gardens, it’s one of the city’s most luxurious hotels and offers a truly memorable experience. The service is exceptional, the rooms are beautiful, and the location is outstanding.
Another top luxury choice is Hotel d’Angleterre, which sits in a prime location at Kongens Nytorv. It’s elegant, historic, and consistently ranks among the best hotels in Scandinavia.
One final tip: August is one of Copenhagen’s busiest months, so don’t wait too long to book. The best hotels often sell out, and rates tend to climb as summer progresses.
