How Hard Is It To Get The Amex Business Platinum?
Now can be one of the best times to apply for this benefit-packed card.
As mentioned above, cardholders can earn 150,000 Membership Rewards® points after spending $20,000 in eligible purchases on their The Business Platinum Card® from American Express within the first 3 months of Card Membership.
Below, you’ll find further details on this card and what this card comes with.
The annual fee is $695 (See Rates & Fees).
Who Can Go For the Amex Business Platinum?
Any U.S. resident at least 18 years old with business income can try for The Business Platinum Card® from American Express. Your company can be structured as a corporation, partnership, or sole proprietorship.
As required by federal law, you will need to apply using your EIN if you are a corporation or partnership. Sole proprietors can apply with their EIN or Social Security number.
The application process is similar to applying for any other business card. You will need to enter your business and personal details, including annual income, contact information, business industry, and size.
In most cases, Amex provides a decision within 30 seconds of submitting your application. If your application flags for further review, you may need to show proof of income.
740 Credit Score
You will have the best approval odds for the Amex Business Platinum if you have a personal credit score of at least 740.
However, you can be approved with a score as low as 700. Your approval odds are better if you have a higher annual income or a current relationship with American Express.
As this is a premium card, you will need a good to excellent credit score.
Even though this is a business card, American Express still uses your personal credit score to reach an application decision. Also, missing monthly payments can negatively affect your credit score.
At Least 18 Years Old
American Express only requires you to be at least 18 years old to apply for the Business Platinum Card from American Express.
However, you must be at least 21 years old to enjoy the full benefits of this card. This is because the airport lounge partners may require you to be at least 21 to enter certain lounge locations.
Being a few years older also lets you establish a credit history, which increases your approval odds.
Amex Application Guidelines
A general guideline is to only apply for one Amex card every five days and two cards every 90 days.
However, the “once in a lifetime” welcome offer applies to the Business Platinum Card. You won’t qualify for the bonus offer if you have already earned it for this card. Also, American Express states they may consider your previous Amex card history and other factors to determine your welcome offer eligibility.
These terms don’t affect your approval odds, but you should make your best effort to apply if you qualify for the bonus offer.
Get Another Card First?
If you have a limited card history, a credit score below 740, or both, you might consider getting another American Express card first.
If you have another Amex business card first, it can let you prequalify for the Business Platinum Card.
For example, The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express has a $0 annual fee (See Rates & Fees).
Your first $50,000 in annual business purchases earn 2x Membership Rewards® points (1x point per dollar thereafter). Plus, earn 2x points on everyday business purchases such as office supplies or client dinners. All remaining spending earns 1 point per $1. Learn more about the Amex Blue Business cards.
As a current American Express cardholder, it’s possible that Amex will do a soft credit pull. This is a penalty-free way to see if you qualify for the Business Platinum Card.
