Goldman Sachs is a legendary investment firm that has helped manage the wealth of prominent households. You might be surprised to find out that this institution issues consumer and small business credit cards through its Marcus by Goldman Sachs platform.

What is Marcus by Goldman Sachs?

The investment firm launched Marcus by Goldman Sachs in 2016 to offer personal finance products, including:

  • FDIC-insured savings accounts and CDs
  • Credit cards
  • Personal loans
  • Investment accounts

Goldman Sachs currently issues three credit card products that are accepting applications. These cards are co-brand products that partner with Apple and General Motors. Each is a Mastercard product and may also feature Mastercard World Elite benefits.

Additionally, there were rumors of a Goldman Sachs credit card that would have been the first direct consumer product with an independent loyalty program. However, that idea was put on hold in early 2023 as the bank is focusing on other priorities.

Apple Card

The information for the Apple Card has been collected independently by Johnny Jet. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

The Apple Card is the first Goldman Sachs-issued credit card. It launched in 2019 and can be an excellent product if you use Apple products as you can earn bonus cash by checking out with Apple Pay and using your iPhone or Apple Watch to pay for purchases.

You can get up to 3% back on purchases:

  • 3% back at Apple
  • 3% back at select merchants when using Apple Pay
  • 2% back when using your iPhone or Apple Watch to pay with Apple Card
  • 1% back on all remaining purchases

A unique benefit of this card is receiving daily cash back. Instead of waiting until the end of the statement cycle to redeem your rewards, you are able to cash out daily. Your purchase rewards can deposit onto your card in the Wallet app to pay for purchases or go into an interest-bearing savings account.

While it’s best to pay your balance in full each month to avoid interest charges, this card also makes it easy to estimate your total interest costs if you carry a balance. The card estimates your interest payment based on your payment amount.

Another perk is that multiple users in the same household can utilize the Apple Card Family feature which helps each member build credit and learn money management skills. Linking the account makes it easier to track spending and manage payments.

You may also like this card as it’s a titanium metal credit card. Metal construction is unique as you usually need a premium credit card to avoid plastic construction.

Finally, this card doesn’t charge an annual fee, foreign transaction fee, or late fees. However, interest charges may still apply.

As a heads up, there is talk in August 2023 that the Apple Card partnership may shift to American Express. Until the partnership change becomes official, Goldman Sachs is the sole card issuer.

Summary

Goldman Sachs has credit card partnerships with Apple and GM. The rewards programs are appealing as you can easily earn bonus cash that you can redeem for cash back (Apple Card) or vehicle purchases (GM). These products won’t be a good fit if you are not loyal to either brand, but they are excellent rewards credit cards in their own right.
