This morning, Delta Air Lines crew are being commended for their seamless and quick evacuation of a Boeing 757 plane heading to Minneapolis, from a snowy Atlanta.

Delta Air Lines evacuation.
Below is the video, which was shared with the caption: “A 22-year-old Delta Boeing 757 bound for Minneapolis was evacuated on the tarmac in Atlanta today after reports of an engine fire caused a rejected takeoff. The incident occurred while Atlanta remains under a winter storm warning, adding to the already challenging conditions.

The FAA issued a statement saying, “the Delta Air Lines Flight 2668 crew aborted takeoff at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport around 9:05 a.m. local time on Friday, Jan. 10, due to a reported engine issue. Passengers exited the aircraft on the runway. The FAA will investigate.”

According to the airline, there were 201 passengers and seven crew members onboard. According to initial reports from the airport, four passengers reported minor injuries, with one transported to the hospital for medical treatment.”

Here’s another angle of the evacuation:

As you can see from the comments below, almost all of them were positive because the crew did such a great job and the passengers listened by not bring any of their carry-on bags off, which drastically slows down the evacuation process and can cost lives:

  • “Props to the flight attendants!!”
  • “Not many bags. You guys are learning!! NO BAGS it’s not worth lives!!! Well done crew”
  • “Big shout out to my Delta Crew, getting those passengers off the plane. Thank god they are all safe❤️ #Deltaproud”

If you ever have to make an emergency evacuation, follow these important steps:

  1. Stay calm: Try to remain calm and composed. Panicking can make the situation more difficult for you and others around you.
  2. Listen to crew instructions: Pay attention to the flight attendants or pilots, as they will give clear instructions on how to evacuate. Follow their orders immediately and without hesitation.
  3. Leave your belongings: Do not attempt to grab your personal items, bags, or any belongings. They can slow you down and block evacuation routes.
  4. Use the nearest exit: Always use the closest exit, whether it’s a door or an emergency window exit. The flight crew will direct you to the nearest available escape route.
  5. Go to the exit quickly: If you’re instructed to evacuate via the slides, move quickly and calmly. Don’t push or shove.
  6. Help others if possible: If you are able and it’s safe to do so, help others around you, especially children, the elderly, or those with disabilities. However, prioritize your safety first.
  7. Leave the aircraft quickly: Once you’re out of the plane, move far away from the aircraft to avoid potential risks like fire or fuel leaks.
  8. Follow crew’s directions on the ground: Once outside the aircraft, follow instructions from emergency responders or airline personnel for safety and assembly points.
  9. Stay in the evacuation area: Do not wander off. Stay in a safe area until further instructions are given.
  10. Be prepared for the unexpected: Be mindful that the evacuation may happen in an unfamiliar or unexpected way. Always be ready to adapt to new instructions.

Your primary goal during an emergency evacuation is to evacuate safely, so focus on getting out as quickly and efficiently as possible.
