This private transfer service helps you sightsee between destinations

Each Friday, we feature a reader-submitted tip as our Travel Tip of the Day. This week’s reader tip (on Valentine’s Day!) comes from reader Lois, who shares a cool ride service that lets you make stops to sightsee along the way:

“When I was was planning my European travel this summer with my husband and two kids, I was looking for an easy way to get from Lisbon to the Algarve (a three-hour drive) without having to rent a car or take a train or a small plane. With some Googling, I found a website: Daytrip, which hooked me because the reviews were good and frankly the branding gave me confidence (kind of how booking a home through Airbnb feels more real than dealing directly with a stranger).

“Daytrip is essentially a private driver/car service and a local expert all in one. Drivers who know the place really well. They’ll take you the long distances (from one country to another, or city to city), but also stop to see sights along the way (if one desires). I booked it easily online while making my travel plans and had the most lovely experience. I wish I’d known about them for my last trips to Italy and Ireland where driving a rental was extremely challenging (okay, terrifying).

“After my Portugal experience, Daytrip followed up with me to see how my trip was and I said it was so good that I wanted to do their PR. Now, I’m happy to report that Daytrip is a new client and I’ve found that it’s run by some very smart folks. I’ve learned that they are already in 65 countries and four continents and growing like crazy all over the world.”

I haven’t tried the service myself but it’s a great idea. And the reviews really are very good. Thanks for sharing, Lois!

Daytrip keeps taking me to roadtrip. Not sure if this is the same site.

I used Daytrip in late September, for an auto trip from Athens to Sofia, Bulgaria.
Both the company, and the driver kept in touch with me on email and What’s APP, and the driver arrived at my Athens hotel on the minute… despite closure of Syntagma Square by some sort of labor dispute (as often occurs in Greece) – and my ride to Sofia went very well, with the driver handling the Bulgarian Border customs and immigration for me while I waited in the car.

Car was clean, nicely furnished – and the trip was really interesting, with stopovers at rest stops, and offered, as well, side trips along the way to various POIs on the way to Sofia.

I’d highly recommend this company, as they were very responsible in communications with me and fulfilled their service promises to the “T”. I would add, that the Bulgarian driver spoke their language (of course) but like most 30 and under aged Bulgarians, he also spoke great English- not a small thing, on a vehicular trip to a Country where both the spoken and written language are completely unfamiliar and undecipherable to a 78-year-old American man….

Daytrip is awesome! I’ve used it nine times over the past three years for travel between cities in Europe. Some some city pairs on my itinerary would have been rather difficult to travel between utilizing public transportation. Salzburg, Austria to Czesky Krumlov comes to mind. On their web site, they provide the base cost of the trip between selected city pairs and suggested sightseeing stops along the way with the incremental cost noted for each stop you may choose to select. The drivers have all spoken good to excellent English and typically are knowledgeable of the route and stops along the way. All drivers I’ve had have been safe and courteous and the vehicles have been clean. You can find their web site at mydaytrip.com.
