Every year, as summer fades and the back-to-school season looms, one corner of Southern California transforms into a haven for spell-casting students and devoted Harry Potter fans. Now through Monday, September 1, 2025, Universal Studios Hollywood invites guests to return to the halls of magic for Back to Hogwarts, a seasonal celebration inside The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
I was fortunate to visit Universal Studios Hollywood and experience Back to Hogwarts with my family, including my own school-bound, Harry Potter-loving kids this past weekend and it was a hit all around.
This immersive event captures the heart of the Hogwarts experience, encouraging fans of all ages to don their house colors (Gryffindor red, Slytherin green, Hufflepuff yellow or Ravenclaw blue) and take part in an unforgettable magical journey through Hogsmeade village and beyond.
A Spellbinding Start to the School Year
Whether you’re a Muggle or a Master of Charms, Back to Hogwarts sets the perfect stage for the new school year. Snow-capped rooftops, cobblestone streets and the soaring silhouette of Hogwarts Castle provide a jaw-dropping backdrop for a day of wizarding wonder.
It’s hard not to wander through the Wizarding World of Harry Potter without your jaw hanging open. Walking the streets of Hogsmeade Village really does make you feel like you’ve been transported right into the pages of a storybook.
The experience blends beloved attractions with unique seasonal extras, from exclusive merchandise to character moments lifted from the pages of J.K. Rowling’s beloved series.
At the heart of it all is the Hogwarts Express conductor, stationed near the iconic train for a charming photo op and a little magical banter. Friendly, witty and always in character, he offers an enchanting welcome that kicks off the day with a smile.
Butterbeer Everything
It wouldn’t be a Hogwarts celebration without Butterbeer and Back to Hogwarts delivers in delicious abundance. Fans can sample this signature drink in its classic cold form or opt for frozen or hot variations, depending on their preference (and the weather). For those craving something extra indulgent, Butterbeer ice cream and Butterbeer fudge offer a sweet twist on the iconic treat.
Inside the rustic Three Broomsticks pub, guests can dine like true Hogwarts students with hearty British fare while soaking in the ambiance of one of the most detailed dining settings in any theme park.
Shop the Crest Collection
New for the season is a refreshed Hogwarts Crest Collection, featuring updated apparel and accessories themed to each house. From embroidered scarves to wand-themed jewelry and cozy spirit wear, it’s the perfect chance to show your school pride (and maybe pick up early Halloween costume gear while you’re at it).
Don’t Miss the Magic
Of course, no visit to Hogsmeade is complete without stepping into the towering halls of Hogwarts Castle for Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, a stunning, multi-sensory ride that remains one of the park’s crown jewels. Younger wizards will also enjoy Flight of the Hippogriff, a family-friendly rollercoaster that weaves past Hagrid’s hut.
