Thanks to NBC Los Angeles for uncovering this new scam and alerting renters. A rental car customer describes how he was scammed by an auto thief dressed as a rental car agent outside of Dollar Rent A Car near LAX. The victim was returning the rented van to the lot when a man dressed as an agent offered to take his keys and the car for him. Even though he bought the extra insurance, the rental company says the customer is financially responsible for the car because he didn’t remove the keys.
