Garbage bagsGarbage Bag Poncho
Yesterday’s tip was about packing a poncho. Well, if you’re out on a tour and don’t have a poncho or an umbrella with you, ask a restaurant if you can have a large garbage bag and turn it into a DIY poncho. I did that once while on an excursion in Roatan, Honduras (above), and it really worked!

We always carry a large black trash bag in our carry-on to use upside down over the pull-up handle in case of rain. It is just the right length to cover and protect the carry-on and not interfere with the wheels.

hahaha You should have posted THIS tip before yesterday’s. I already ran out and bought a poncho and now look! I really didn’t need to. Just pack a few garbage bags!

I, too, always pack a black garbage/leaf bag at the bottom of my backpack. Besides a rain cover it is a great ground or bench cover for dirty or wet surfaces.

This is an old runner’s trick as well. I run half marathons. If ever I’m at a destination race, a large lawn and leaf bag works wonders. It will cover you from shoulder to shoes and shelter you from the rain. We also use them to keep warm on cold mornings while waiting in our corrals to start the race. They hold in body heat in like nobody’s business. p.s. ….Hi Shannon if you’re reading this!

We always pack a 6 pack of disposable ponchos from dollar store (2pack for $1) share with friends and dispose of to save weight upon returning to sates!
