I recently learned this car hack that I think everyone should know about. Initially, I wasn’t sure if everyone already knew this and I was only just finding out about it. So I asked a group of parents at my kids’ school if they new the trick (just to make sure I didn’t look like a buffoon writing about it). When I showed them, they all said, “No way! That’s awesome!” And they ran to their cars to try it for themselves.

Super cool car key trick to open your car windows quickly. It worked for everyone but one, who drove a Mercedes, but she may have been doing it wrong. However, I was just at a Ford/Lincoln dealership and I asked the salesperson if it only worked on my brand of car or all of them. He confidently said it works for all cars. So my question is: How am I only finding out about this now? Check it out below and tell me: Did you know this trick?

In case you don’t want to watch my 10-second video embedded below, here’s what I’m talking about.

@johnnyjet How did I not know this cool car key trick until now? Have you tried it? #foryoupage #fyp #TravelTikTok #carhacks ♬ original sound – Johnny Jet

Did you know that you can remotely open your car windows using your key? Press the unlock button on your car key once, then do it again, but on the second time, keep holding it down until the windows go down. It should take about four seconds.

If you live someplace hot or are vacationing somewhere where it gets hot, this is a great trick to quickly roll down all the windows to cool the car down while you’re walking to it.

Unfortunately, I’m not aware of a way to do the reverse and roll all the windows back up so I guess we’ll have to wait until the manufacturers figure that one out.

In the meantime, did you know that pressing your unlock button twice and holding it down the second time was a thing? Does it work for your car? Do you think it’s interesting? I have to try this in the morning!

Did not work on my Porsche. Maybe this just works on American cars?

I will ask one of my friends who has a Porche. Another reader said it worked on their Audi

Yes, we knew about this and it worked for our 2007 Acura MDX so it’s been around for a little while at least. To close the windows, we inserted the physical key into the lock and turned it twice to the left, holding it in place the second time until the windows went up to where we wanted. We now have a 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV but haven’t tried opening the windows with the FOB yet.

Did not work on my Toyota Venza!

It worked on my Toyota Camry! Only difference was it opened the two front windows and the moonroof, but not the back windows. Trying the reverse with the remote lock button did not close the windows. I had to close the windows from inside the car the normal way. A very “cool” hack (pun intended). Never knew this before, and yes, definitely more hacks like this!!!

I tried it several times but it did not work on my 2019 Chrysler Pacifica Limited.

It worked on my 2013 Nissan Altima; but only the front windows went down. I tried the hack to close them and it didn’t work. I pressed the start button to go into accessories and that didn’t close the windows either. I had to start the vehicle before I could close the windows.
But that’s okay, I like being able to open the windows before getting in on a warm or hot day.
I also have a remote feature to start the car which will turn the air conditioning on if it’s left in the on position but I never use it.

    Not my Subaru either.

It doesn’t work on either of my Toyotas!

Yes, I knew it works on our Acura, plus the sun roof slides open. Like you said, great when it’s hot (like always in Florida). Thanks.

Does not work on my 2013 Hyundai Elantra or my 2012 Dodge Caravan. I do have alarm systems installed on those two vehicles and this may be the reason why this doesn’t work on those vehicles (??).

I have been using this trick for about 14 years now on my 2010 BMW X5. Thought it was only with “expensive “ cars. Moonroof also opens. I remember first time I accidentally opened all and it scared the crap out of me.

Didn’t work on my rental Ford Edge. Traveling right now so can’t wait to try my Volvo when I get home.

  16. Donald Wolff|

Does NOT work on my 2022 Kia Telluride. ☹️
